September 2011 ACT Discussion and Socres

@Syndekit: I think it was asking about the golden spruce and which fact about it was supported by the text. Not sure about the question, but I recall putting “same height as other trees around it” or something like that.

In general, science = screwed me over. For some reason I was really thrown back by the genotypes/phenotypes, and THAT was the end of my timing… xD

The movie style, begun as…, etc. The comma’s the key. If it were just "the movie style began/begun, I would agree. But the comma makes all the difference.

wasn’t the last question about the trees? it was that they were similar sized as the surrounding trees

Yeah the last one was that it was the same size.

random answer for math that i remember:(at have not been stated yet)
-a^2 + 3a - 48
5y -1
(0,8) and (0,-8)
slope = 1/2 or 1/4 cant really remember that one
10%
-24/25
145 or 135 can remember this one either
2b/c
1/2(6 + 20)(radical(9^2 + 7^2))
something x sin32
perpindicular line y=-x
(7,2) for the square on the grid with given point (4,2) as vertex and a side being 3cm
the angle for the flagpole = 60 b/c equilateral triangle

anyone get salt spray for any of them???

I don’t think it was similar sized. The passage said the tree could be seen from miles away.
As for the began v begun look at this: [began vs begun - UsingEnglish.com ESL Forum](http://www.usingenglish.com/forum/ask-teacher/3323-began-vs-begun.html)

My input on the begun/began: seconding what Marinebio said.

i.e.
CollegeConfidential began in xxxx as a forum for studious students. VERSUS
CollegeConfidential, begun in xxxx as a forum for studious students, has definitely grown since then.

You wouldn’t say, “CC, began in xxxx as a forum…, has definitely grown since then.”

Did anyone else enjoy reading the passage about Synesthesia? I found it quite interesting, and pretty easy.

was the one with the midpoints on the line 16? That’s what I got but those type of questions get confusing and are easy to mistake.

1/2(6 + 20)(radical(9^2 - 7^2)), not +
5y-2

@anon: I recall getting salt spray for why the spruces are so well-suited to live on the Northwest coast. (:

The forms are different. The questions are the same, but in a different order. Trust me, he’ll get what he deserves ;)

a lot of those are wrong 36onmath

It did not have “has/have” anywhere in the sentence with hitchcock.

Does anyone remember the question regarding began/begun. I know I chose begun and was fairly confident of my answer, but all this talk is making me doubt that because I don’t remember the sentence…

i put begun. it was like ‘blah blah blah, ___ as a necessity, blah blah blah’

begun makes the most sense there, and i usually never would go with it.

what was that question with 750 years? i forgot it…

16 is what i got bvfor4!!!

I have a feeling that reading will be my downfall once again based off of these responses.

Thank you, injennious. Finally someone who understands what I’m trying to say! haha
