***SEPTEMBER 2015 ACT DISCUSSION THREAD***

I also wrote about civil rights movement lol

Did anyone write about prohibition?? Cuz I wrote about that too
I actually find it really hilarious how we all wrote about rosa parks

@mark1970 You were supposed to address all three viewpoints and develop your own (restate one with a little tweaks) I wrote a little more than 2 pages in a 5 paragraph format, addressing 1 viewpoint per paragraph. How long were your essays?

Guys, when they say 5-8 weeks for scores, they are talking about the ACT multiple choice AND your writing score. Scores come out 2 weeks after test for the 4 sections.

In the essay I threw in cliches like Rosa and MLK, some fairly well-known activists like Malcolm, Gandhi, and DuBois, and I even managed to get Buddha in there.

@tina23 I did prohibition, too. I kinda liked the essay, mainly due to the extra 10 min that gave me more time to think and put more detail in my paragraphs.

English: I thought it was quite difficult, and I usually score 34-36 on this section. I think there were some harder, and particularly tricky, problems on this test.

Math: Much harder than normal. Expecting lenient curve.

Reading: Average. I don’t think the double passage makes a difference.

Science: Average. I felt like the science had one or two particularly challenging passages, but overall, normal.

Writing: love the new format.

I like the new format too, now it’s kinda like SAT except for it’s 40 minutes instead of 25. Sweet.

to all the people who had problems with science:
what did you find particularly hard about the science section?

I don’t know a single damn thing about science but it seemed pretty easy to me? compared to old ACTs?
maybe I found it so easy because I literally got everything wrong??

lol i sort of mentioned apush stuff in my essay, but i spent about 1 page just on the civil rights movement (montgomery bus boycott mainly)

Seems like I picked the opposite perspective from everyone on here and I didn’t want to say something like “Perspective 3 says” so I just said a perspective

I wrote about the Civil Rights Movement too; In a subtle way, I mentioned the issues going on today but I didn’t want to get too political lol.

Darn. Now I feel like the only one that didn’t write about Civil Rights Movement. I just talked about Immigration and LGBT movement… (I’m not sure if Im allowed to say this… Please, CC, don’t ban me)

How many breaks did you guys get in between your test??? My proctor only gave us 1 and I was wondering if it was the same for you guys?? I was super tired and needed to get up but she was like no break after the science section so I was like wtf!!!

Our proctor gave us a 10 minute break and then a couple minutes before the essay.

one 10 minute break, one 5 min break, except we weren’t allowed to get up during the second break

Was it just me or did you feel that the reading was a little bit more of a time crunch this time?

I only referenced two perspectives on the essay. I ran out of time, but thought 2 perspectives would suffice. Time to register for the October ACT!

i definitely had less time to double check, but i did prose last which sort of helped

I feel like I’m the only one who has said this so far but I thought all sections were semi-tricky? None of them were particularly hard for me… I don’t know… Everyone is freaking out about math but I don’t think it was THAT hard. Maybe it’s because I just don’t remember or that it actually wasn’t hard for me because I did the harder math sections from April and June ACTs…?

1st time ACT and junior here  Had form 73D btw ~
