SEPTEMBER ACT ENglish Question

Ok, i'm pretty sure i got 74 questions right and the only one i got wrong involved the corn passage and the question with something like "most of the corn.... are (underlined)". I was debating between "is" and "are" and i went with "is." Was that the right answer? If i got it right, most likely 36. If not, then 35/34.

most of the corn “is” imported from thailand and china for thai dishes ! totally think you got it right cortana

Yeah I got “is” too. It doesn’t make sense if you said “most corn are imported from Thailand and China…”

thank you so much :D

But it was asking about the stalks, not the corn itself. Stalks is plural, so the answer is are

Why would it say stalks? You would import corn, not corn stalks right?

I don’t think it was referencing the importing, I think it was referencing the growing

No I’m pretty sure it said importing because it was talking about how the U.S. tends to import baby corn versus other countries that naturally grow theirs.

“Most of the corn stalks _______ imported from thailand and china for thai dishes.”
If that really is a question on the test, should it not be are? “Of the corn stalks” is a prepositional phrase in this context, so “most” is the subject. “Most are imported from Thailand and China for Thai dishes” vs. “Most is imported from Thailand and China for Thai dishes is how I see it”. Consequently, I would have picked “are”. Am I wrong?

I think it was “Most corn stalks ARE imported…”

i put is. because it is most corn stalks

if it was corn stalks, then it’s “are”. If it’s corn then it’s “is.” We are divided on whether it was “corn” or “corn stalks.” I don’t see why you would import corn stalks though lol.

So WAS IT “IS” OR “ARE”???

Does it matter at this point? Scores come out in a week or two, can’t you just wait?
