What are you guys doing to prepare? Post your study plan below!

When are you guys going to start prepping?

once i’m done with my AP homework. which will probably be in August haha. I’m using barron’s act 36 and the"red book" as a combination to prep.

I just started prepping, but I am thinking it may still be a little too early. I feel like I am going to get through all my prep stuff way before the test and have nothing to do the month before, so I will probably start studying mid July.

I am using the Red Book and Barron’s ACT 36 as well. I haven’t taken the ACT before (SAT twice with a 2120), so I am going to do 1 practice test in Red Book to see the format, then go through Barron’s completely. Then I will probably just finish the rest of the tests in the Red Book following my Barron’s review. Hopefully that will be enough.

what are you trying to get tortoise?

I am going for a 33.

Based on SAT to ACT conversion chart, a 32 is about the same as a 2120, so I want to get higher than that. I have a 1470 out of 1600 for M+CR on SAT, and a 33 is about equivalent to that as well.

So basically I would be satisfied with a 33, anything less than a 32 I would just stick with SAT and if I got a 32, I don’t know what I would send.

I ordered Barron’s ACT English Reading and Writing, Barron’s ACT math and Science, Barron’s 36, and the red book.
I’m reading the 3 books then taking the red book tests in 3 week incrimates up until the test! Hopefully it’ll work.

Guys i want to get 30 + tell me how plz, i got only 25 in june, im sooo bad in reading.

I got the same problem as lithium and same score. I need a way to get a 29+. Has anyone tried Kaplan or would like to recommended a book? I’m in desperate need. Also I’m planning to start studying mid july after I’m done with my summer work. Can anyone suggest and ways to increase my score??

DO not use Kaplan, I used it when i first started doing act prep and i was like “dude ACT is so easy!” Now i opened barron 36 and i wanted to bang my head against the table because it was so much harder. Using barron 36 i jumped 4 point score

I’m using Kaplan and McGraw Hill, they’re the first books I bought, I think they’re good practice just to get acquainted with the test format and types of questions. I study 2-3 hours every NIGHT to increase retention and skill improvement. After 3 weeks of Kaplan and McGraw Hill I’m going to go get Barrons 36 and Princeton Review. The more practice the better.
I want to get a 32-34, but math will be my downfall. I’m scoring 29-30 on the practice Kaplan and McGraw Hill tests with 2weeks of practice.

Has anyone used Sparknotes ACT how is it?

Also when you buy Barron’s 36, Barron’s Math and Science, Barron’s reading and writing. how do you use it?

So when I take the ACT I get a
Comp- 26
Math- 33
Science- 26
Reading- 23
Eng+writ- 20

My goal !
Comp- 31
Math- 36
Science- 31
Reading- 29
Eng+writ- 28
Right now I have a book of 5 past ACT and a Kaplan science book … I’m honestly really broke so would prefer online RELIABLE stuff … But if I absolutely must ill spend money … Any resources online or that’s well worth the money?

And I take it in September but am studying now

JUNE ACT 2013
E: 35
M: 36
R: 29
S: 27
Comp: 32

Goal for September
E: 36
M:36
R: 32
S: 30
Comp: 33.5 (rounded to 34)

I have a cross country meet on this day, so I’m probably going to have to take the October one, which sucks.

I want to get 30+ on act but I need to improve reading and english inorder to make that happen

E 22
M 32
R 17:confused:
S 29

Anyone have tip for improving readingsection?

Sept. will be my third ACT test. The first time I took the test, in Dec, I used the Real ACT Prep Book and scored a 28 (E=32,M=26,R=31,S=23,Essay=8). The second time, in June, I scored a 29 (E=31,M=25,R=31,S=28,Essay=8). I studied using the 1,296 ACT Questions by Princeton Review.
For September, I’m hoping to score at least a 30 composite. I have Barron’s 36 coming in the mail, and I’m thinking of purchasing Real ACT Prep again (I always demolish my review books).
For the high scorers that have taken the ACT a few times, does this seem like a reasonable study plan?
Thanks and Good Luck to everyone!

I can’t find a FAQ in this forum, so I’ll ask it here… If one takes the September ACT with writing, will the results still arrive in time for EA/ED at most schools? I have a 2090 on the SAT, but am going to bust my butt this summer and aim for a 33 (I know, easier said than done)…

@BCH2014 Yes, your September ACT scores will make it in time!
