Hello, I'm a non-traditional student thinking about applying for art colleges.
I'm mostly interested in sequential art/cartooning or anything related to comic book art.

I know SVA and SCAD both have majors in it but have also consider the possibility of illustration major. (which most art colleges have).

What would you suggest for good schools in these majors? Is it worth it to get a cartooning/sequential art degree instead of a illustration major?

I am mostly looking for the best schools to teach me to draw comic books.

there was an old thread, I don’t know how to go back and find it.
OP’s friend was at SCAD and unhappy because there aren’t much support, it is new-er field and not many schools offer the major blah blah. Maybe SVA, MCAD I can’t remember the rest.
I said to get really good at drawing before worry about how to cut panels (or squares? boxes? however you say it here in US) from my life long manga love-hate experiences.
If you mean American comics, watch " The Devil and Daniel Johnston" or read " Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay " by Michael what his name and think, if you really have to go to art school and spend astronomical amount of money.

Thanks Bears and Dogs for the advice,

I think I am pretty decent at drawing. (Most of the art classes I have taken in college have been foundation), it really has been my dream of going to art college.

The reason I never went to art college is because it was to expensive. However, I’m not really worried about that anymore because of the GI Bill I receive from being in the service and the fact I’m not a dependent of my parents. (Which would qualify myself for need-base scholarships).

My plan is to get a degree in my passion (comic drawing) and art history. I don’t know if I will make a career out of cartooning… but if not, I was planning on going to school to be a librarian.

However, I really want to be challenged and be surrounded by other talented artist. I’m really sick of not being challenged in my community college classes… so that’s another reason for wanting to go to art school.
