So I really messed up freshmen year at Boston University. I have an over all gpa of 1.96 and was on academic probation. I took a calc class during freshmen summer and got a B+ so now I have a 2.16, if i do very well this fall semester and get a 2.8 is there a chance that any other half way decent college will take me? I have dont a lot of EC's/ jobs at BU, literacy tutor for a year, Pair fundraiser for Grassroots INC, worked for BOSMUN ( BU's model UN), and will now be a publications assitant in the BU College of Communications. My hs gpa was a 3.43 and SAT score was 1880. I can probably get somee nice recommendations. I just cant stay at BU any longer, I just do not have the money, i am $40,000 in debt just for 2 years, my parents are no longer financially supportive, working 2 jobs while being a full time student killed my GPA, i hope some school will understand. So PLEASE PLEASE recommend schools that you think would be worth applying to and tell me if you think i even have a shot as a transfer. Schools I would like are, Carnegie Mellon, University of Pittsburg, or any decent small liberal arts college in the Northeast. PLEASE PLEASE HELP!

Um…your other choices are all very expensive. If money is the issue, why not have a look at your state university system?

How would you pay for CMU or a LAC? The ones that meet need are out of range and there is little merit aid for transfers.

Nothing in your academic record will put you through to Carnegie Mellon: not in the past and not in your planned future.

I too would have to recommend a state school at this point. There’s not many universities that will accept you and will be trading down from BU, which severely limits your options. (This is if you scrap up a 2.8.)

I agree with stradmom. Money is clearly your issue, so you shouldn’t be thinking about expensive schools right now.
