Serious Problem

I will start with my issue directly which is everytime I take a passage especially a reading one , I get many mistakes ranging from 3 to 5 mistakes that is so far from my goal which is 1 or 2 mistakes per passage.I tried to practice as many passages from many sources as I can but with no improvements. Also tried to read some notes from several tutors and students but nothing has improved my score on the passages.I want to state again that this happens mostly with Reading ,and I just need some advice so that I can get a better score on my passages since my exam day is near.

Do you take notes as you read? When reading, use underlining, stars, brackets, whatever you need to make note of important pieces of information. Jot down the theme, main topic, authors opinion. This functions as a means to imprint in your mind where you read something, and when you refer back to the passage you can quickly find it. Also, you need to FOCUS intently and not allow anything to distract your concentration. Many of the passages are really boring, especially humanities ones, and they are often written with seemingly convoluted jargon. Looks for keywords that alert you to clues of the authors feeling about things. Strong adjectives are good clues. Also, prirotize the types of questions that occur frequently, like inference ?s, or the easy ones to get points on, like vocabulary in context.

First , Thanks for your reply. Now, I should put your advice into work and see what will be the results hoping to get some improve.

I would take some practice tests with unlimited time to see whether you can figure out the right answers. Then you can work on getting faster.

Yes, that too.

Thank you all guys.I am working with your advices and lets see.

I assume, at this point, that you aren’t applying for college in the fall. If that is the case, and if your performance is so far behind where you want it to be, why don’t you wait until the fall to take the exams and spend a lot of time over the summer preparing yourself? I hate to be the one to bring it up, but I’m pretty sure that English isn’t your first language. That’s fine. Your skill with a second language is far greater than mine. However, I would guess that many of the mistakes you are making are because you are unfamiliar with the more nuanced points of English. My recommendation is that you read as many well-written English books as you possibly can. Also, listen to some of them in audiobook form. Do what you can to help teach your brain how to think in English. If you really focus on that between now and October, I’m sure your SAT scores will improve, but you can’t improve your language skills that much in just a few weeks.

I think highlighting text is a good technique when it is done carefully. This means you only highlight the main idea inn a paragraph, but do not underline the supporting information. What you would be aiming for is a shortened version of your textbook that you can review carefully and quickly for key information. If your mind wanders or you get sleepy when reading (not the test, of course), stand up and read the book aloud to yourself. Read actively. Look at questions at the end of a chapter and ask yourself questions about content to see if you are really paying attention. Read constantly, and with a dictionary at hand, If you don’t enjoy reading or read only when it is required, your reading speed and comprehension may well be less than they should be. Reading is like riding a bike–practice improves performance. READ and quiz yourself about what you learned. Practice skimming! When a test question may ask about something specific in the text, but that part of the passage won’t be highlighted. Practice finding the missing information by looking for just the key word, name, date or…and ignore the rest of the passage. You have had difficulty on reading portions of tests. Every time that enters your mind and you start dwelling on it, stop it!!! Pay attention to the reading task itself. If you get nervous, take a few deep breaths, shake your hands, sit back for a moment or do whatever soothes you.
