Serious question about bc (please give any opinions)

I was about an A- student throughout high school, with a few C+s and B s mixed in. My highest SAT was 2280 for one sitting and 2320 superscore. However, I had an awful 1st semester senior year. I got a C in AP Bio and an F in AP Calc AB, with a 0 on the midterm. (Why I got that is not important, but the comment from my AP Calc teacher simply read “received 0 on midterm exam.” Prior to these semester grades being sent, I was accepted at UConn and UT-Austin (out of state for UT), and deferred at Michigan. After the midyear grades were sent, I was rejected from Brandeis, BU and UW-Madison, most obviously because of those grades. However, I was still accepted into BC’s Carroll School. I’m Chinese-American, and I believe that I indicated that on my common app. In no way am I complaining about being accepted to BC, but based on my current situation, I have a burning question: Honestly, did BC let me in just to “diversify” their school? I know they are about 28% minority, but I don’t see how I got in any other way. Thanks for any and all opinions.

They probably looked at your whole “body of work”, including those impressive test scores which are above their median scores, and chose to give you a shot even though you had a couple of hiccups. I personally don’t think it is because you are Chinese-American.

CSOM is an awesome school and you should feel very fortunate to have been selected. My D graduated from CSOM in May with job in hand. Good luck!

They may not have looked at your mid year grades. Were you accepted EA? My son’s EA schools did not require Mid term transcripts sent out, another bonus of that program. Also, you may have made the admit stack before your Mid year grades were received, and they did not get around to looking at them for those accepted. They will look at your final end of the year grades and if they do not pass muster, you could have a problem.

No,it’s not because you are Asian. Lots of Asians from my son’s school apply there and it doesn’t seem to be a factor.

Exactly. But if true, that might mean that you could be rescinded once BC looks at your final transcript.

Actually, that is extremely important. If you had a good reason, your GC could be proactive and call BC before they possibility take negative action.

btw: I disagree with the other posters. I do believe that being a person of color – any color – is a small boost at BC.

I had a feeling that I was borderline on getting in BC even before the midyear report based on my GPA. They probably did look at it. They also posted on Agora that they received it, so I’m not so sure its just been collecting dust since they received it.

no

and from a previous thread

or maybe it was because I spent some time at a catholic school.
