Serious Sat 2 Question: Please Respond

Wow- I just did really bad on my sat 2’s.
The only three I’ve taken (al from october)
700 Literature
690 Us History
620! Writing

The thing is though I get Straight A’s in my classes (including AP English, which I got a 5 on last year) and have a SAT I with highst m-710 and highest v-800. Also, I write on the school newspaper and for a real newspaper, so the writing score is incongruous. I’m applying Columbia ED and am not signed up for november, so I can’t retake for that. What do you guys think? On Collegeboard.com, I searched Columbia and it listed SAT I as an indicator of admissions and placement, and SAT 2 only as placement. Somehow, I doubt that.

I think that they really won't pay too much attention to your SAT II in writing, given that your SAT I verbal is perfect, and given your academic and extracurricular achievements in writing.

Bump-opinions/advice Please

Retake. That low score in writing does not correlate to your verbal scores, and will make colleges raise an eyebrow. People need to realize that they should start taking SAT II's as soon as freshman year at the year's end, when a class that they have taken will prepare them well for the SAT II and their school's final.

be a walk in at the november SATs.

I wouldn't get too upset. SAT II's are the easiest academic factor for schools to overlook. Schools are concerned about rankings, and I don't think SAT II's are figured into their rankings.

Hey, you have similar scores as I do, sort of.. I got 690 on us history, 5 on english ap exam, 800 verbal for sat, and I'm the editor of my school newspaper.

But I don't think the writing should matter that much. I mean, the colleges should know that everyone has bad days. You already have good scores on your other sat II's/I.

You could probably retake if you wanted to. But if the rest of your application is strong, I don't think one sat II will make that much of a difference.

thanks- but do you think that a 690 us, and 700 lit are considered "good"

They're pretty good I guess. It probably depends on what percentile you're in.

Like, my history 690 was in the 73rd percentile.. I don't think it was that great. But it's still decent.

iirc, the 700 in Lit is a pretty high percentile

My dd has similar stats to yours and she's retaking the SATII's in math IIC and writing. Her writing is higher than yours, but still incongrous. She has a bad day and ran out of time. You can't do anything for ED, so let the chips fall, but retake at least the writing in Dec for RD.
