My top school that I'm wanting to go to is UCLA which is a very selective campus. My UC GPA is a 4.18 and my SAT score is a 2010 (690 CR, 660 on writing+math). Should I retake?

Is there anything else you are lacking in? (SAT II)
If not, why not just take it again? It can’t hurt you.
It’s only one Saturday…

Are you a CA resident? If so, are you ELC?
What’s your declared major?
How do your ECs look?

Generally speaking, this score more closely matches UC San Diego, Davis, and Irvine than UCLA so I’d say re-take and see if you can increase it by 50-100 points.

I have a 670 on us history and 710 on chem. I’m a california resident and ELC. I don’t have a declared major yet. I have a ticket to the november test, but I fear that my score will go down…

Even as a California resident and ECL, your scores are a bit low for UCLA. Your GPA is quite good, so you still have a chance at getting in (particularly if you have good extracurriculars), but it would definitely be helpful if you improved the score.

It’s a bit unfortunate that UCLA doesn’t let you use Score Choice (although, other than your agreement with the university, there’s nothing preventing you and they won’t know if you do: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-los-angeles/1059844-any-ucla-admits-use-score-choice-their-app.html), so if you get a lower score you will have to send it.

I still recommend that you try to take it again. According to a College Board statistic (I can’t find the link, but I remember reading it a while back), almost every student who retakes the SAT does better on it because they are more familiar with the test and how it works, so I wouldn’t worry too much about getting a lower score (and, even if you do, it probably won’t be a deal-breaker to your application if the rest of it is good).

There’s nothing to worry about. They will take your highest single-sitting score. If you for some reason do worse this time around, they will take your first sitting score instead. Besides a few hours of your time, you have nothing to lose. I’m not betting against you for UCLA, even with your current SAT score. Good luck.

Ok, so the SAT will be in a week, and I haven’t studied anything yet. Most likely, my score will go down as I seem to have forgotten some math strategies and vocab. I need further feedback on whether to take it or not which is why i’m bumping this thread up.

you have awful scores for schools in cali like caltech, stanford etc. definitely retake.

T.T

I’ve never heard someone call a score of 2010 awful before. My dream school is UCLA.

Sorry dude. UCLA is actually an ok choice for you. but for other good schools, like i said, your score is pretty bad. your gpa makes up for it though. Definitely retake.

This guy is not making any sense lol^

which part? Ok let me say it again with big letters :

FOR UCLA, YOU ARE OK. FOR OTHER GOOD SCHOOLS IN YOUR AREA, YOU ARE NOT.

understand big guy?

lol
