So someone was telling me that this "college counseling" service said that, although schools say that they will treat the commonapp the EXACT same as they would with their own apps, "what they say and what they do are different things."

Can anyone vouch for this, is it really an advantage to use the schools own app vs. commonapp?

I'm pretty sure they're treated the same way. I don't have a source for this, but I believe the majority of accepted students use the CommonApp, simply because it's the easiest way to go.

I don't really know if schools prefer their own app over the common app or not, but I do know that some schools (and I think Bryn Mawr is one of them) just stick the common application inside a special school-specific cover...

Very little point to the post, but I thought I'd share :D

Well, the Common App plus the school's supplement should be almost the same as or equal to a school's own app.

There is no reason at all why the choice would affect admissions. I mean colleges can't necessarily blame you for trying to make life easier for yourself.

Remember, it takes time and money to actually apply to a school, Common App or not. It's stupid if colleges can't see that.

The thing is that the school's own app is sent directly to the admissions office and it's formatted the way they want so it's less of a pain to process.
