I'm really considering writing about a YouTube gaming channel that I have. I have gathered over 100,000 subscribers to date. And through this channel (and gaming) I have been able to raise $50,000 for humanitarian missions, and humanitarian aid is one of my passions. I am really just wondering if this would be a good thing to write about for the supplemental essay for Harvard? Because I'm really fearing that admission offices would reject me just for writing about a gaming channel.

It’s creative and quirky, yet productive. It should be a gold mine of a topic – but of course, as with any topic, it depends on how you write it.

I’d say go for it. It’s unusual and impressive. Even if a gaming channel may sound trivial, you’ve clearly been very productive with it and accomplished some very concrete good work with it. If I were receiving $50,000 in charity money, would I care if it came from a gaming channel? Of course not, I’d be like, “You rock on with that gaming channel, and thank you so much.”
