I’m a sophomore, but is it too early to get in contact with admissions coordinators to the and USNA? I am expecting a meeting and phone call from local admissions coordinators to both schools. Just wanted to hear other opinions on this. Thanks!
Yes, it’s too early
Stay enthusiastic, but let the Blue & Golds focus on the candidates their coaching through the process right now. They have a lot on their plate, so try to find other sources of information if you want to know more. Hope this helps.
You can certainly apply for Summer STEM as a sophomore which will get you on USNA’s radar. Next year you should apply for USNA Summer Seminar. You can find links to these on the USNA Admissions website.
I don’t think its ever too early. I’m also a sophomore and took the initiative to get some of my personal questions answered by a local Blue and Gold officer. They advised me that meeting early on is great for when they have to weigh your true interest in the Academy.
Thanks @BlueAndGoldDream My 1st choice is West Point and my second choice is USNA. I have already talked to both admissions reps for my area.
You go @ryanalexander116. Good luck!
Thank you, best of luck to you as well. @BlueAndGoldDream
Well I won’t hold it against you that USNA is your second choice. :). Blue and Golds will be finished with this class soon so contact them in April/May. As noted, sign up for STEM and next year Summer Seminar. Take leadership positions where you can and push yourself in physcial conditioning and keep up your academics.
@Sportsman88 Haha thank you. Quick question, is there a certain number of leadership positions held they look for? I will have at least 2 by my senior year (XC co captain and company commander in NJROTC most likely)
I’m not qualified to answer that question but I expect there isn’t a set number. In general colleges don’t want to see you as president of 10 organizations because no one can be truly involved in that many organizations.
You still have time. Focus on yoir grades. Join a sports team and try to become captain of something. Trust me i went through that process. You can alsl get some good info online and on forums so search around online too
Never to early to reach out to your BGO…introduce yourself and let him know you are interested. I like to see the initiative , and can sometimes provide advice on how to establish a solid record for you application. If you don’t know who the local BGO is, look at the USNA Admissions website and reach out to the Area Coordinator…he/she will put you in touch with the local BGO.
Thank you @NavyBGO @Racheal892 I contacted both West Point and Annapolis Admissions Coordinator/BGO and talked to both in person. I plan on taking 5 AP’s this upcoming year (my junior year), including swim team, cross country (I will be co captain my senior year), and NJROTC (orienteering/raiders), and in NJROTC I am Bravo Company SCPO this year and my senior year I should be Master Chief of my Battalion. I also plan on doing National Honor Society the next two years, and possibly running for a spot my senior year. In sports, by the time I graduate, I should have 4 cross country letters and 2 swim letters, as well as multiple orienteering medals/a ribbon and have competed in raider competitions. Thanks for all of the help guys!
