Does anyone know if your first choice service selection can be in the Restricted Line & Staff Corps (ie: cryptology/intelligence), or is this purely for those who aren't medically qualified for aviation/surface warfare/marine corps/subs/spec ops/seals (although i'm a girl, so subs/seals is really out of the question)

ideally, i woudl like to be a pilot, however, i dont think i will ever be pilot qualified due to height & vision. Plus, my ultimate goal is to serve in the Pentagon, Department of Defense, etc.

thus, i guess my question is if after the academy, can i go straight to the pentagon?! that would be amazing.

My guess is that all this mostly depends on your performance along with your drive toward your specialty in your "spare" time and of course, the needs of the navy.

Obviously the navy needs good intelligence people, but likely with the exception of a few brainiacs, most will require fleet experience to round out their value.

Are you sure about your height? A lot of factors go into it, one of them being your seated height and leg reach.

I was too short, too. So disappointing!

If you like planes, you might want to ask for an aviation squadron assignment as an 1105 (unrestricted line officer). I did (after OCS, not the Academy) and when I got to my squadron was able to talk my way into the maintenance department. I had big fun...was Line Division Officer, Avionics/Armament Officer, got to fly backseat in jets, land and cat from the Kitty Hawk and others. If I had stayed in, I would've changed to AMDO (1520 designation).

I decided to be a pilot fighter instead of a fighter pilot and I really enjoyed it. :)

I like your thinking, I want to go State Department or Pentagon after flying if I can. Perhaps one day we will meet there! Would that rock or what?!

If you go Marine ground, you can go right into Intel after The Basic School; it's not restricted and it's available to get during TBS. Semper Fi!
