Session 205 UCLA Roll Call

it would be funny if any of us end up talking 2 eachother tomorrow and not knowing we already talk on here lol

Jodi Davis is the sender. I’ve already spoken to her about my schedule so I’m not too surprised.

Psychobiology major, just in case you were curious.

@UCcasualty:

Urban Planning 120 (1130AM-1PM)

Yeah that would actually be very weird…but not like we would know, right? Haha!

I guess those of us who still don’t know who our orientation counselor just have to ask tomorrow.

for those concerned, you dont have to worry about not knowing your counselor or not getting an email. you’ll get everything you need to know at royce quad in the morning. and they basically direct you step by step throughout the whole day.

830-11ish - youre basically in moore hall for a long opening statement. (i fell asleep)
11-12 - youll find your orientation counselor and he’ll talk to you for a bit about general stuff.
12-1 - lunch
1-2 - i had my departmental major meeting. (this varies for majors)
2-7 - youre basically on your own to do as you please. me personally i went to the study list help and that was very helpful. theres plenty of workshops and things to attend and what you choose to attend is really up to you. oh yea and dinner too.
7 - meet back up with your orientation counselor and theyll take you to their room and give you more repetitive info that youve heard throughout the day.
8 - finally. you get to enroll in classes with your OC. then bye bye.

the whole day schedule will be given to you on a piece of paper with where everything is and what times so no worries.

you guys will meet in front of royce hall, i suggest you guys have your potential classes mapped out beforehand because it will save you A LOT of time. have back ups for your back ups because i guarantee you wont get your first choice.

i never understood the idea of having backups. if something is full, dont even bother putting it into your schedule. just map out a schedule with classes that are still open. simple as that.

no, it really isn’t.

you need to keep in mind that during orientation you’re going to have hundreds and hundreds (not including those who aren’t at orientation) of other students signing up at the same time as you (8:00 P.M.), even if the classes said “open” when you were looking through them earlier, they may be full now. most classes only have about 10-20 spots open, so what happens then when those said hundred students try to gun for that same class? it happens.

not only that, sometimes students want to add classes that have pre reqs that they aren’t aware of. for example, a guy in my group wanted to add a upper division history class, even though there were still spots, he found out too late that history classes are only open to history majors up until august. sometimes the system straight up won’t let you add for no reason and your student adviser has to call admissions and ask why, which other students have a chance to take your spot. better to play it safe.

Home sweet home. After being lost for almost an hour and stuck in traffic for another, I am finally home. That was a LOOOOOONG day. It could def. be cut down to about 5 or 6 hrs.

it could be much shorter i agree…if you have ur bruincard there is no point in going before 11. and then the departmental advisor was helpful, and then we should have been able to sign up for classes, not waiting 7 hours to sign up lol

Right?! Literally NONE of the workshops applied to me. I had 4 hours to kill, it was quite boring and pointless.

the food was amazing thoughhh…ughhh i stuffed my face in covel

@ciao- did you get the classes you wanted? did you change your major?

@eshug- what was amazing about the food? I read online the Hedrick Dining hall menu & the food sounds terrible! lol Is there a salad bar? The online menu only lists about 10 - 15 choices per meal & breakfast is all pastries!

Is there more to Hedrick dining hall’s selection than this:

<a href=“UCLA Dining Services”>UCLA Dining Services;

@Eshug- lol. I actually got a nasty burger. I was too lazy to go around looking for something else so I grabbed some pie and an ice cream cone instead hahah.

@shawna- yes! I had the best counselor she was sooooo nice and helpful. She spoke to the department advisor* and changed my major!! :). I didn’t get my first choice of classes though. I had the perfect schedule planned out then one of them was a wait list so it ruined everything. Oh and everyone in my group was psych so it was kinda awkward haha…

they had a lot of options…burger, hot dogs, cereal, desserts, looked like there was a salad bar.

personally I had pasta then a couple slices of great pizza then a cone of fro-yo…and then another slice of pizza lol

Wow. Haha. Did you get to a point where you weren’t even hungry anymore, you just wanted to take advantage of the free food?

@ciao - did it seem like the other Psych majors were happy w/ their schedule? HOw many classes are you taking? so the cafeteria is yuckY? the menu looks like the selection is very limited…

@eshug- how about healthy food for someone that doesn’t want to put on the transfer “15”? lol

[Housing Information](<a href=“UCLA Dining Services”>Menus)

check it lol i think the best way to avoid the transfer 15 is to eat controlled amounts lol and not just eat until ur stuffed like i did today hahah

when is ur orientation?

Well they all had to have psych 100 added for them by our counselor and other than that (I don’t know much because since I changed my major I only saw them when we met and when we went up to her room to enroll) they were saying that a lot of the psych classes had restrictions so they can’t get much. I am taking three, that’s what is recommended. Idk if the cafeteria food is “yucky” lol. I had some good curly fries&dessert. The pasta looked good as well and they had a salad bar.

ps. Some people ask some really dumb/obvious questions. Makes you wonder how they got in in the first place lol.
