Anymore ideas? I am about to choose for good.

If finances are at issue -- as they are for most as the cost of college keeps rising -- you may want to ad a few more state schools to your list. Many set designers go to graduate school... a good number of graduate schools offer tuition remission and assistantships, but some very good ones do not.

You may want to weigh the cost of your undergraduate education agaist the cost of potential MFA training.

California (where is sounds like you are from) has some very good state schools for theatre. Also -- many state schools where you would be out of state also offer a less expensive option to private university.

All that being said -- many private colleges and universities do offer strong financial aid packages, so I would still apply to the private schools that you love, just look to a number of financial options.

Good Luck!

This is to everyone-- What do you consider to be the BEST set design programs in the US?

I hear a lot of NYU and CMU, but what else?

NYU Scenic Design is a graduate program.

2 suggestions:

contact the designer's union, and ask them if they have any data showing where their members have gone to school. USA (United Scenic Artists) Local 829, United Scenic Artists Local 829

pick 3 of your most favorite set designers, and send them an email asking for where they went to school, and what they would recommend for you
