Set the record straight: Define "partying"

Is it not a party until there's music, dancing, and alcohol? I see people here saying they like to hang out with their groups of friends yet they don't like to "party". What does it mean to "party"? I still don't get if I'm a party animal or if I've never truly "partied".

i think it depends on the amount of people. If its greater than a certain number then its partying, if under it is a kick back? also who cares what other people think, do whatever makes you happy and get good grades lol

To party really just means to get together with friends to have a good time.

That could mean anything. A guy and a girl getting together and saying let’s have a party could just mean them planning on having sex(having a good time together). A group of people might be getting together at a friend’s house to watch the Hills premiere and they can call it a party. A lot of people think the most fun thing to do with friends is get drunk, listen to music and sometimes dance, so that’s considered a party to those people.

I’m a party animal= A person who’s social and likes to have a good time with people.

In college to party means to go to a place (usually a house like a frat or sorority, or at my school, one of the athletic houses) that has alcohol and music and to partake in these said things.

Theres no one meaning, stop trying to define everything by one word.

I was scandalized when I first found out that parties did not always involve dancing LOL. I just assumed that parties were built around dancing for some reason. But apparently you can have a “party” where everybody just gets drunk and tries to talk over really loud music.

My parties never have music.

Just food and alcohol. Sometimes TV and games.

If there’s a birthday cake, then it’s definitely a party.

^ haha case closed :D

If you are asking this question, you probably will not party much.

like a group of people hanging out together in one place and having fun…
this is a weird question. does it actually even matter?

people party in many different ways…

Sometimes I party drinking beer with a bunch of friends in an apartment and just talk.
Sometimes I party eating pizza and stuff doing homework in the computer lab pulling all nighters with all my classmates.
Sometimes I party by hiking to the mountains up in the top and drink with my partners.
etc. etc.

i dont think “partying” has a universal definition, but it depends on the individual. What I think they all have in common is to have fun.

I tend to think of “partying” and “having a party” as two different things.

“Partying” makes me think of alcohol and loud music.

“Having a party” can be many different things; for me it’s usually friends getting together and watching movies/playing video games while eating pizza.
