SETC Question

I was just looking at the SETC website for the first time. My D is a senior and I am wondering about taking her to this. We are also going to Unifieds in Feb so is there any reason/advantage to doing both, or would that be just seeing the same schools? It seems so late in the audition year. Would love some insight. Thx.

I think it is more for juniors. We wished we had known about it then.

My daughter went to SETC this year as a junior and at the time I said that I would also take her next year as a senior. Now that we are in the throes of college stuffs, I’m not going to bother. It really is best for juniors although my daughter’s senior friend got a full ride to a school that was at SETC this year. That’s not the norm, however.

Overall it is much more useful for juniors than seniors… many of the schools that go do not even go to the senior auditions (because March is so far past the application deadline for schools that do not have rolling admissions, or cannot make special exceptions).

However, there are some programs that do attend the senior auditions (if they can make offers late)… and sometimes scholarships could be available for some of the non-auditioned schools that have rolling admissions or later deadlines.

SETC is a huge conference with many workshops with college faculty and industry professionals… so – it is a great conference even outside of the college auditions… but, still probably more bang for the buck to go as a junior. In addition to the auditions (providing valuable feedback), and the workshops, there is also an educational expo… so – HS juniors can get information about many programs they may not have already heard about.

I wish more HS drama teachers and/ or guidance counselors (in the south particularly… since, depending on location it may not be too far a trip for kids and their families) would share this information with the sophomores and juniors. it is a great opportunity to learn, get information about programs, and grow.

:)

Thanks everyone for all the info! …confirms what I was thinking.
