SETC

Does anyone know if my D should take an updated headshot and or resume with her to SETC ? I don’t have a current headshot of this year & really wasn’t going to get new ones till this summer before senior year when we get her senior pics done … Someone told me you need to take resume/pic with you but then someone told me they didn’t so unsure.

Yes. ALWAYS have a HS/R with you at auditions. This is from SETC’s website: “You should provide every company which calls you back with a headshot and resume. Make sure these have your audition number on them, and a way to reach you during the convention – either a cell phone or your hotel phone number - do not give out your room number. We suggest 40 or more so you have plenty to hand out.”

As for updated, if the HS doesn’t look like your child, it’s not usable. If it looks like her, then you’re okay.

Where is that info in their site? If didn’t see it when I registered her. I am referring to junior high school auditions , not professional ones by the way I forgot to mention that.

Oh, sorry. Thought you were talking about SETC professional.

I have never participated in SETC - but can only imagine it is NEVER a bad idea to have headshots/resumes with you “just in case” (after all, it’s not like they are super bulky)… though I would not worry about new pics etc

I agree with @toowonderful. D didn’t need the headshots for her callbacks junior year, but it’s never a bad thing to have some on hand.

I can only speak for my school, but we do not need a headshot and resume from HS students we call back at SETC, but we will take them from students who have them. Each school has an information sheet with picture on each student auditioning. We still require a separate audition to be considered for admission to the program (senior year of HS), and at that point we ask for a Hearshot and resume as part of the application materials.

S did not need any headshots when he went as a HS junior 3 years ago.

Ok thanks for all that info. I thought we could take some just to show professionalism if nothing else but don’t want her to look like a dork lol. Perhaps we will take a few in case she develops great interest in a program etc

First time poster, (very) long time lurker…wondering if anyone has received an audition time for
SETC yet. D’s application was completed by the end of Nov. and we still haven’t heard back other than the intial confirmation that all LOR and application info was received.

@Jjrmom8 we also registered early and also haven’t heard anything. I am thinking sometime in February they’ll send something out. I know the lady told me when I emailed questions about travel that we should come in on Wednesday to sign in and get my daughters info etc. we are staying onsite so should be convenient .

^^And there’s a mall next door across the parking lot should you need anything at the last minute.

Thanks for your response @theaterwork …we are arriving Wednesday as well.

And good to know about the mall @GSOMTMom

@Jjrmom8 we got an email today from SETC . Has audition number . Do you know or does anyone remember how many kids go in at a time to audition? I know it’s a group…I think someone told me you file in with your group and then hand music to accompanist , sing and then do monologue? @mom4bwayboy do you remember?

I think it’s about 10 that go in at a time and the rest sounds right.

@theaterwork D received her email and audition number as well. Not sure about the number of kids in the groups.

Anyone that has gone to SETC before for high school auditions…it says 90 seconds for song and monologue if you choose to do both…ugh that seems like not much time…perhaps a 60 second song & 30 for monologue? D had one picked out already but its too long…

@theaterwork - sorry it took so long to respond, but it took awhile for me to get answers out of S regarding HS auditions. He said that approximately 40 kids go in at the same time and they all watch each other’s auditions. You give the music to the accompanist when it is your turn. You can choose the order - song/monologue or monologue /song. While the 90 second limit may seem “short” for the auditionees, it’s plenty of time for the auditors. Choose a time ratio that works best for the cuts/edits of the song and monologue. And while watching - and being watched by - 40 of your “compatriots” may seem unsettling, it’s a terrific, “low-cost” way to see where you stand in the “pack”, what works and what doesn’t. Try to relax and see it as learning opportunity. As a HS junior, there is really nothing to lose in this experience.

We had originally planned to go to SETC, but had to cancel. My D’s spring show was moved up to the second weekend in April. As it stands she has something every weekend through the beginning of May. It was going to be too much :(. BL’s to everyone going. I hate we will miss y’all!

Bummer @brightstaral too bad we won’t get to meet you and your D! We are still going but literally going on Wed & leaving as soon as we can. my D has too much she is missing at school so we have to get in and out!
