SETC

Ok for those that went to SETC… if auditions for juniors are thurs would it be safe to say we should be done with seeing any colleges from call backs by Friday afternoon? That’s when we’re leaving…
@KatMT would you think this will be sufficient?

Also can parents accompany their kid into the college fair? Someone said I would need a badge to get in but I am thinking why would I have to register to go into that as a parent? Umm I’m the one paying for college!! Any one that has attended can you comment on the places parents can go. My D is attending as an individual so she certainly doesn’t want to wander around alone!

I think that Friday would work. Worse come to worse you know the schools that called her back, and if you could not connect with all could follow up afterwards.

I know that parents are definitely in the Ed Expo/ vendor hall… but you may need to register to do so. Other parents may be better able to answer this one. They do have badge checkers at the entry to different locations, and I think they check at the Ed Expo/ vendor hall, but I cannot remember.

Thanks @KatMT . I found out that for the college expo , parents do have to be registered to enter. Which is a bummer cause I didn’t register myself as a parent lol. You can register onsite but it’s like $200/300 to do so and all I was wanting to do was accompany my D since she’s attending solo without a school. I thought parents would be welcomed at the college fair but was actually told that the recruiters “frown” on this? As it looks like your child has to have their hand held & can’t do things themselves. Hmm not sure I agree as my D wants someone to walk around with for company. Plus sometimes parents like to inquire about financial specifics that kids just don’t get or remember to ask. I totally get the independent thing for sure & we wouldn’t be trying to interject with the reps otherwise… Sometimes as a parent you really don’t know what your job is …like get prepared to take on an investment that’s akin to buying a home but " we don’t want you involved as the person paying" … Don’t understand this…

I can only speak from my experience… but, since we use SETC as an opportunity to connect with potential juniors who we hope will officially apply, visit and audition for the programs as seniors, we are happy to answer both student and parent questions. There definately have been quite a few parents who visit the booth to gather information, and ask questions…

SETC combines all of its various areas and initiatives in one big conference. So, it seems that they want everyone there to register (and pay) for the conference. They charge extra for each “add on” … College Auditions, Professional Auditons, Job Contact, etc… but they seem to prefer everyone there to pay the baseline conference fee for access.

In addition to the high school auditions and the Educational/ Vendor Expo there are lots or workshops, keynotes, and HS, MS, and Community Theatre shows performing. The conference registration pays for access to all of that. The HS, Grad School, Professional auditions, and the job contact service are an additional add on fee.

If I remember correctly, most of the keynotes, workshops, and expos have people checking badges at the door.

Maybe they have a day rate. That may be a less expensive option if it is available.

Parents who have attended with their kids will be better able to answer the question of actual access to the Educational/ Vendor Expo and workshops without a badge.

I have a change to my schedule, and I will not be attending SETC with my colleagues this year, but tell your D to stop by the table and ask for Wolf or Ben. If you PM me I can have them look out for her in the auditions as well.
