I was accepted to Seton Hall and also got a letter about applying for the Honors Program. Does anyone have any experience with this? How competitive is it to get in. I got a 1380 on the new sat. Also can I do it if my major is undecided? Thanks for the help.
Congratulations on your acceptance to Seton Hall! The Honors Program is a great opportunity for students who are looking for an extra opportunities to further their education. It is not major-specific, so you can participate as an undecided major.
If you would like, we can put you in contact with a student that is currently in the Honors Program. Email us at thehall@shu.edu and we’ll make sure your questions get answered!
I received a public tuition rate scholarship of $22500 per year and a summer scholarship of total $4500. What is the summer scholarship?
My son was accepted into the Honors program, but we cant find much independent info on it other than the general info on the SHU website. Hoping to learn more at Pirates Preview tomorrow.
If anyone has any info on it, TIA for posting it.
If you do, could you please post it? We cant make it:(
Honors program:
400-450 applied this year (number goes up most every year), 90-100 are accepted most years (number does NOT go up from year to year);
anyone applying to SHU can apply to Honors, but SHU applicants with high std test scores are encourage/invited by Admissions via email to apply;
just high std test scores will NOT get you in, the six short essays are used to determine if you’re a good fit for the program and if you “get” what the program is about. Many kids with high tests scores are rejected because their essays indicate that they aren’t all that interested in the subject nature of the Honors curriculum;
The four 6 credit courses (2 Fr year, 2 So year) are considered replacements for many of the core requirements in the various majors/schools at SHU:

A number of majors have reduced credit requirements for Honors students working on a second or third major (an Honors students several years ago graduated with four majors by applying certain SHU classes to multiple majors and by taking advantage of the reduced number of credits needed for those majors). Philosophy appears to be the easiest. If I’m reading it correctly, all 24 Honors credits count toward a Phil major, provided you take four more specific Phil courses to complete the major:

room was packed for first session yesterday, which had we wondering, but turns out some in the room had not yet been accepted or even applied yet to the program;
about 25% leave the program, either due to work load or the program just not being a good fit for them;
Honors freshmen all live together on Aquinas 4th floor (these are the most recently renovated rooms on campus, tho we didnt get to see them);
Honors has its own Tutor In Residence in the dorm;
You can graduate with a degree and complete the Honors program in three years, you just have to begin your thesis early.
