Setting Reasonable Expectations - Help!

My DD is a HS Junior this year and we are just starting to do research. She has danced since age 3, and done competitive dance since age 8. They train in ballet, but the focus of her studio is more heavy on the jazz, contemporary. Her grades are very strong. I’m trying to get a sense of how to evaluate her realistic odds of getting into a dance program and what is the best way to find what the acceptance/admittance rate is for some of these programs (specifically into the school of dance). Would love any advice on evaluating schools to find the best fit and most likely places she has a shot at.

What can you afford to spend without taking on any debt at all? Have you run the NPC on any schools? Do you know whether your in-state public universities have good programs in dance?

We have a relative who graduated from Julliard as a dance major. This is not an area where you want to start off with any debt.

I do not know how to judge a student’s chances of admissions for dance. I would expect the audition to be important.

Dance admissions are very competitive for many BFA programs. I would talk with her dance teachers and mentors to get advice on which programs are likely to be a good fit.

I don’t consider a dance degree a fast track to nowhere. Most dancers aren’t going to get rich, but the fact that they’re doing what they love counts for a lot. My granddaughter is a dancer. That’s where her passion lies. She will minor in something that will help pay the bills, but she only has one opportunity to follow her dream and she is going for it.
