Guys, I know this thread won't really matter until next year, when new high school seniors are worrying about college decisions....BUT..

It IS possible to get into UCLA for engineering, without receiving the "engineering letter". I was worried for the past two weeks because some of my friends who applied for various engineering majors (and some for ChemE also) received the invite for the open house, and I didn't receive anything. Nada.

And there was speculation that people who didn't receive this email and/or letter were assumed to be rejected. So my hope of getting admitted to UCLA diminished..

I searched for old threads and google'd around until I found an old blog (from 2007) run by an adcom. She said that the letter has nothing to do with the admissions process; whether you receive a letter or not does not guarantee acceptance or rejection. And she was right.

After two weeks of constant worrying, I was relieved to find that I've been admitted to UCLA for Chemical Engineering!

So, don't give your hopes up if you don't receive this letter! It does NOT mean you've been rejected!

I can understand your anxiety for the past 2 weeks. Glad you made it, finally!
Nice of you to set the record straight for future applicants, who don't get the letter.

P.S. Got the Engr. letter here and was accepted into UCLA today. But your thread will help those who don't get the letter...

yeah i kinda said this in one of my posts in one of the many threads about this...
my friend got into ucla engineering w/o getting the letter and is attending now

A friend and I both got the email and both got in.

my friend only has a ~1900 SAT score too. I thought he was gonna be one of those who got the letter but would get rejected. I guess I was wrong.

Just curious here, but why would you think they would not send letters to some people if they weren't indicating that you were most likely going to be admitted? It literally says in the letter you are among the top applicants and before that it said they recommended your admission.

I would hope that if they were going to admit you into engineering they would give you the decency of asking you to come to the open house, which was the purpose of the letters/email. So I wouldn't keep your hopes too high, since it seems unreasonable for them to not send letters to people they were going to admit.
