I'd just like to share a catharsis of knowledge that occured to me earlier this afternoon as I mused over the fact that we have only seven days left until decisions, if that...

Don't stress. Why? The people on CC are people who are more common than not overachieving, awesome students who are nervous as anything about their well-above-average stats and seeking some real ego boosts in hopes of managing a semi-positive attitude (as we can see, for the most part, this fails, because that's what most AP kids do: freak.) as they await decisions. Don't compare yourself to them so harshly. Simply because user x scored twenty points higher than you on every SAT and SAT II does not mean that they represent the applicant pool you're going against.

The 2500+ people applying ED are either (simply put) obsessed with Cornell or applying ED in hopes that it will boost their less-than-perfect stats, or otherwise simply cool and prefer the more social ivies such as Cornell and UPenn. Chances are, you're not going to have the kind of competition you would have RD, because anyone with the stats to get into such as Yale or Duke for premed will probably apply ED to Yale or Duke, and if deferred apply to Cornell, filling the applicant pool with a bunch of kids who were upset with their 2370 on the SAT (obviously this isn't always the case, but hey-- it happens, and how else will you calm a herd of nerds?). So if you think about it, your chances really are boosted by applying ED-- you don't have ivy defer/reject leftovers, and any super-student will more often than not apply to MIT or Harvard ED rather than Cornell (unless they see the light like we have. heh). So? You have the stats to maybe make it RD? Then you definitely have a good shot with ED. From what I've seen, no one here really has the right to assume that they're rejected just yet. Cornell is funky like that.

So chill~ there are a good portion of people applying ED who are desperate with not-the-best applications and thought that maybe the boost would work to their advantage. What does that do for the people who are qualified? Boost them. It's a beautiful thing, people. :p

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I know quite a few people who have not-quite-ivy stats who applied to their dream ivies ED in hopes of catching a ride on the admission percentage boost.

So? Relax! Decisions are coming soon enough, and it isn't as if worrying will accomplish anything at this point. =) Did you see how many acceptances there were last year from these boards throughout the ivies? I'm telling you, the adcom favors CC over legacies! -coughcough-

thank god for someone with some sense. I'm sure drinkingmilkalldaylong is very nice, and I hope he gets in (partly for his sake haha) but look at the most recent threads he's started: the 10 most recent include:

"any chance of earlier notification before the 15th?"
"What does the increase in ED apps mean?"
"Will taking a SAT class hat my school offers as an actual course hurt my chances?"
"Do you think we can find out about acceptances earlier if we call Cornell?" (repetitive?)
"I need a confirmation on when does Cornell actually start reviewing apps."
"What if you haven't been contacted by Cornell at all?"
"You think Cornell has made their decisions already?"

This is #13, but it fits so well: "Where would you say a 2130 is compared to the rest of America?"

I don't think I could handle being that stressed. And on that note of stress I am going to go study for the Calculus final I have later today. goodluck drinkingmilk, but take some tips from existentialpony. Even though she's just talking about why not to stress about cornell, think in general--any school you personally will get into will offer you a great education, a great time, great friends, and a great starting point for your career.

lol , wow drinkingmilk, you've been singled out by the notorious spanks and sparticus in the cornell forum, way before even going to cornell.... that must mean you have some ounce of greatness in you!

hah pony. I don't think I'm stressed at all about this. Odd. I don't like waiting for the decisions to come out, but I dont feel like i'm waiting, the days are goin by quickly. there's stuff for me to do, like be happy for my friend who just got into Dartmouth, and buy presents for my secret santa person. plus i'm sick, so i've got to worry about my throat and not school. hmm.. this was my random post of the day.

I know what you mean! The days are passing quickly, and there's so much to do, you don't realize that there's only x amount of days left until you actually think about it. As far as being nervous, one day I'll be anxious and the next I'll be completely calm~ it's so odd! But, only six days left now. :) Good luck!

about the Duke-Texas matchup tomorrow in college basketball. as one can probably guess from my user name, i'm hopin duke can pull it out. it's tough though- texas is strong, and duke has looked all but impressive so far this year. can't wait!

pony! you truly are a great woman...woman, am i correct? lol. anyways, yeah. thanks for the dose of chill pill. u have great reasoning skills. ever consider being a lawyer? or counselor..? you shud be mine cause my counselors absoeffinglutely useless. if theres one person that gets into cornell, i hope its u. u have a great personality.
