Several questions about Elon University

My son is a senior and applying to Elon. He has grown as a student in high school, and I want to make sure that at the end of the day he is selecting the best fit for him. When he visited Elon he felt at home and is considering applying early decision. I think he would prefer to apply early action, but concerned that he may not get in if he does not ED. He has a 28 composite score on the ACTs and has done A/B work in high school, with a multitude of honors classes. He has an extremely strong resume, and has always been a very involved person co-curricularly. Just wondering how many families or students can say that their child got in through early action or regular decision vs. ED? In addition, were their other schools that students were selecting between that were similar types of institutions to Elon? Looking around the country, I have not found many schools that are of similar size, academics, and personality as Elon. Comments on both accounts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I don’t know anyone who went to Elon so I can’t comment on theri EA/ED admission rates. Offhand, some other mic-sized schools in that range might be Marist (NY), Quinnippaiac (CT), and Fairfield (CT).

It is a good thing that he “felt at home” there and gut feel is part of the equation. ED is a good option is an applicant is 100% sure it is his/her absolute top choice and if there is no need to compare financial offers between schools. If those two conditions are not true then EA is a great alternative.

Hi @mamafein. My daughter is a freshman at Elon. I agree with happy that ED should only be used if he’s 100% sure that Elon is where he wants to be. She wasn’t 100% sure she wanted to go there when she sent her application in but as things progressed it quickly zoomed to the top of her list. For comparison she also got accepted to UVM, College of Charleston, Miami U (Ohio) & Rollins (she was initially waitlisted at Elon, but got accepted about a week later). It really depends on what your son is looking for in terms of major, what type of environment he wants to be in (campus vs city), & whatever other factors are important to him.
