Several questions - IB, honors, schollys, etc

Little backstory, I have 3.97 USC weighted GPA (kinda low) and a 34 ACT
I’m interested in IB, but would be completely fine with other business majors
Also interested in honors college, but I 100% believe it is important to balance school and fun in college so will be rushing greek
So…

  1. How much more time consuming is IB than another business major?
  2. Is honors a lot harder/more time consuming than non-honors?
  3. Is honors and greek together even possible or is that too much?
  4. Based on scores I’m fairly confident I’ll get in-state, but do I have a legitimate shot at the two big ones?
If so, I have a bball playoff game on the saturday of the interviews, surely they’d let me play in that right?

Your GPA seems much too low for top 2.

Are you seriously asking if the University will consider you for their top merit scholarships when you’re prioritizing a HS baseball game over their interviews?

I’d also point out that their IB program requires a second business major. If you do attend the interview weekend, I highly recommend becoming familiar with the program so that you demonstrate a high level of interest in the program.

  1. How much more time consuming is IB than another business major? It is not really more time consuming, but you have less freedom as you have to double major. You also need a language minor.
  2. Is honors a lot harder/more time consuming than non-honors? From the comments I have read, it depends, but generally not much different. Benefits are smaller classes and more serious classmates.
  3. Is honors and greek together even possible or is that too much? Yes, many students do both.
  4. Based on scores I'm fairly confident I'll get in-state, but do I have a legitimate shot at the two big ones? You may have a shot, but students applying are better qualified each year. If so, I have a bball playoff game on the saturday of the interviews, surely they'd let me play in that right? Of course they would let you play as that makes their decision process that much easier. The choices you make have repercussions.

How can you know you’ll have a play off game? You have to see how flexible you can be if you get invited. Basically if you can’t get to weekend, they move on to the next person. It may have changed, but at least when my D was involved a few years ago, the weekend started on Saturday, so you might could be a little late but you can’t miss whole weekend. And that schedule could be different now. Work hard on essays, get application in on time and worry about interview weekend when and if you get invited. They only invite 40 OOS applicants to the interviews so it’s very competitive.

  1. Are you seriously asking if the University will consider you for their top merit scholarships when you're prioritizing a HS baseball game over their interviews? Yes I am. It's not something someone can just miss.
  2. I'd also point out that their IB program requires a second business major. If you do attend the interview weekend, I highly recommend becoming familiar with the program so that you demonstrate a high level of interest in the program. Um yeah. That's why I want to know if double majoring is far too intense for someone who wants to get something out of college other than just pounding books for four years. I like to consider myself well-rounded. Don't worry I'm very familiar with the program

@Gora14 & @scmom12 thank yall those were much more helpful than the other guy lol. I’m unlikely to get invited to the interview weekend anyways, but I’d be letting down a lot of people missing the game (it’s first round game we’re guaranteed to have a game then btw)
Ideal for me would be to be in honors program, taking the IB path, and involved in student life especially Greek.
Looks like it may just be possible
Thanks again for yalls help

Reality check time from “the other guy”. 50 in-state and 40 out-of-state students are invited to the interview weekend from more than 13,000 students that are admitted. The scholarships are worth over $40K for in-state students and over $120K for out-of-state students. The scholarships offer a lot of addition benefits, and I believe they also expect the recipients to represent the school on occasion.

If your playoff game is more important to you than $40K or $120K, that’s your call. Would you really ask one of your teammates to pass up this type of opportunity?

I seriously doubt the school will extend one of their top scholarships to you if you’re not willing to participate in the interview weekend. It would indicate a lack of interest. Assuming you’re lucky enough to make the top 90 and get an invite, I am %99.999 sure that the 91st person on the list would be academically indistinguishable from you and would likely be thrilled to receive an invitation and the scholarship.

@shortnuke No I understand your first answer 100%. The second answer was useless, but I guess I can see what you thought I meant.
