What are the typical stats of a student accepted to UR? I'm currently at something along the lines of - GPA: 3.8 (UW), 4.5(W). Rigorous courses: 9 APs, 3 courses at Stony Brook University. SATs/SATIIs pending. NHS. Volunteer at Stony Brook University Hospital, etc.

Is UR right for me? My guidance counselor is essentially clueless about UR. I'm a prospective premed student that enjoys math and science. I've taken/will take just about every advanced science and advanced math class that my school has to offer: AP Chemistry, AP Physics B, AP Physics C, AP Biology, Human Anatomy and Physiology, AP Calculus BC, heck even AP Comp. Science. All of my other classes are essentially on that same level, I just prefer science and math.

One of my main interests is physics. How is the physics department at UR?

What are the benefits/advantages of attending UR? I'm really interested in UR. I know they have the hospital and medical school right by it along with Eastman. Is there anything else that I should know about?

I'll probably make a visit sooner or later. So far I'm impressed with what UR has to offer but I'd like to hear more about it.

Thanks!

Im pretty sure you will be accepted if you decided to apply as it fits right in with your stats. It's science, medical, and economics programs are some of the best and physics is no exception. UofR is know for its very flexible curriculum and how it allows for research outside of the classroom. 70% of undergrads do some sort of research there. I suggest you visit to get a feel for it, if you are interested.

Thanks. I'm planning on visiting sooner or later :D

Im no admissions officer but ur atleast 75% more book smart than I am and I got in--then again, i have a suspician that i fell through the cracks... i guess just make sure u have xtra criculars--they told us that they didnt accept people based on grades or sats but that each person they accepted did something really worthwile whether for themselves or others--that doesnt mean you have to go cure SARS, but for instance there was a kid who devoted his life to the piano, another who worked with the blind, i guess they liked the fact that i was on NPR (seriously though, i have no idea what they saw in me)

im probably overstepping my bounds by posting this response anyway, but no worries Mac, im sure ull get in where you want

thanks for hearing me talk out of my ass a while
-out

Hey , you are a shoe-in for UR, especially if you apply ED you'll 100% get in :) so donttt worryyy haha

Umm , premed wise you are looking at one of the best universities in the nation, you come here, do decently well and you will get into a med school (med school is hard to get into mind you). Also U of R med might even take preference over you and that med school is like ranked one better than JHU so thats pretty good eh :)

Polysci/Econ/MEchE/Optics/...any science/premed are the ways to go here...with those, coming out of UR will gaurantee you being in the top of the fields..if you need any more info dont hesitate to holler
best of luck.
