Severance and Unemployment =EFC $26951

Oops, you’re right. I don’t know how I messed that up. Probably still having PTSD from doing the FAFSA last year!

OP, after you know the first choice admitted … contact FA office and fill out the doc for estimated 2010 income and expenses. That could get you a full ride in some places.

He has been admitted to his first choice, Howard. I called them today and they said once I submit his enrollment fee, they will automatically send out the initial financial aid offer based on the current EFC (They won’t run those until April or so), at that time I need to fill out a form for a special circumstance and submit that with supporting docs (letter of separation, hardship letter, and copies of unemployment pay stubs). They will at that point put it up for review and make a decision. If they haven’t made a decision by May 1, i will have to accept and pay enrollment fees at one of his safety schools as well. I have already confirmed that the CSU’s will honor the special circumstances and drastically adjust the EFC, but his heart is set on Howard.

As far as my past career is concerned, I actually worked in pharmaceuticals for the last 15 years.

hmmm…pharmaceuticals…awesome career! Are there any pharmaceutical jobs out there in other regions of the country?

Pharmaceutical jobs are everywhere but the writing is on the wall. With the heavy focus on the healthcare arena, that future outlook for that industry is starting to look like the auto industry in the late 80’s. I am looking in other areas of sales.

Moving is not really an option because our family is here and I own property here. We are not destitute just yet, but we really need to be pretty conservative. I have set aside a smallish sum of my severance for my son’s college education but I can’t justify spending $25k.

Wow, a dorm room in DC costs less than $5K a year? I forgot, did your figures include the mandatory meal plan?

Good luck.

^^^

She included the meal plan as a separate line item because that’s how Howard lists it.
