I just found out today that my weighted GPA is 2.4 and it completely turned my world upside down.

My freshman year overall average: 86 (3.3)

Sophomore: 81 (3.0)

I am now a junior who wished she knew what a GPA was before the end of sophomore year (slacked off a bit, and major personal issues 10th grade and ongoing)

I also recently found out that senior grades don't get included to the GPA.

So... am I screwed? I'm practically about to give up at this point. I want to get into adelphi (I'm enrolled in their high school program) or stonybrook and other SUNYs, and although I feel like I have good ECs (community service, hospital volunteering, donating blood, environmental club etc etc) and yet to take the SATs, the GPA alone makes me feel like my application will be scoffed at.

I joined this forum on a whim of reaching out for answers to see if there is hope. I suffer from severe anxiety and I just can't wait for tomorrow to get my answers.

Blah. Bad way to start off my first post here on the forums but my question is: Is there still hope?

Don’t worry! Try to do really well for the remainder of the school year, perhaps explain your situation (that “personal issue”) to colleges and try to do a lot better. You still have a chance!

Don’t look at the past…you can’t change what has already happened. Look forward, have that drive to do well and you should end up fine. Once you go through undergrad, no one will care about your high school gpa. Graduate school admissions is based on undergrad gpa, for example.

If I had a 2.4 GPA, I’d have severe anxiety and depression too. Also, if I had severe anxiety and depression, I’d probably have a 2.4 GPA. ::validation!::

Anyway, it all depends on where you’re applying. With good SAT scores, some places will take you anyway. Worst case scenario, go to a CC and transfer to a four year school.

To Collegeluva - I see a psych for my GAD, and have been since the beginning of high school and I have a lot on record. Should that be included in my college essay? Also, my gudiance counciler said that students with an IEP would be considered as well.

To Kestrel - Nope. That’s weighted. I’m doing pretty good I’d say. I have a 3.2 GPA thus far but it’s disappointing to see a 2.4 weighted GPA. My high school uses the 100 scale, so I have a 78.69, yet I have a 85 (86 was a typo whoops) in my freshman year and 81 in sophomore, shouldnt that at least be 2.8? I also take a college course this year so that should boost my GPA (so far I have an A in it, accredited by Adelphi)

To Dblazer - I understand but I read around and people say go to community college or you’ll get remedial classes and since I would like to be a doctor I don’t want to go to a CC or even remedial. I know I am much more capable than a 2.4.

To Horsey - I’d hope so. But I kinda hate how it’s not part of the GPA people could make major changes to their GPA in case they had a faulty year (like myself). Also, is it true that if a school sees major improvement it’d look just as well? Like, if I managed to get a 2.4 to a 2.9 or maybe even a 3.0?

To Woof - It is pretty distracting sometimes, but my triggers are the grades and I’m worried too much about my future. I’d much rather not go to CC, worse I’d do is SUNY Farmingdale (heard it’s barely a step above Nassau CC)

Also, thanks for the replies all. But major questions here are: Can I turn this GPA around in my Junior year? And can ECs save me here? I have way too much anxiety for all these questions but I appreciate everyone’s replies.
