Hi - my very special son doesn't fit into any mold (but then again, what son does?) He's severely LD, severely ADHD, and yet bright, personable, social - (adults love him) but he has no friends his own age, and is considered "on the spectrum". the time has come for hims to move on to post secondary educaiton.
We're looking to find a place for him that will help him transition to adult life - a place with vocational support, job coaching, independent living skills training etc. AND a place that offers him a chance to connect with other kids, learn to 'make a life for himself' etc.
Yes, this is a difficult placement issue -
So far we've seen only one such program, the VIP program at NYIT in long island. Are there any other programs that may be appropriate? we just want to make sure we've evaluated all our choices.

It is quite difficult to find such a place, our son has not been successful in academics so an academic college with support is not appropriate, but he IS a bright and interested person, and is very very interested in a program 'away from home' similar to a 'college experience'.

any advice would be greatly appreciated -

thanks
