<p>My son is really interested in Sewanee. Does anyone have any personal insights into Sewanee?</p>
<p>My son's concern is that Sewanee might not be acedemically challenging enough. He has 1510 (2210 with writing) SATs and is worried Sewanee may not be challenging enough.</p>
<p>Any feedback would be great!</p>

<p>I just looked on Wikipedia and saw that they have highest Rhodes Scholars per capita than any other school in the world.</p>
<p>John, I don't have any personal experience with Sewanee, but I have heard positive on it in the past. You should try posting this on the parents forum. They are very knowledgeable and I'm sure you will get some very good info from parents that have visited the school. I would move this for you, but I don't know how. Best of luck to your son!</p>
<p>Sewanee's a pretty good school. I live in the same county as the University, so I know a few of the students. It's known for its hardcore partying, but the professors are supposed to be really really awesome (I'm sort of biased; I know the German professor really well). The major problem is that it's WAY overpriced.</p>
<p>If your son wants a challenge, then the professors at Sewanee will give him a challenge. If at all possible, visit the campus when school is in session. Sewanee is absolutely beautiful, but it is very, very isolated.</p>
<p>has he checked out vanderbilt? nearly all of my good high school buddies go to sewanee but i was in his same boat...came here. the culture at least among the greek scene is practically identical. let me know if you've got any questions.</p>

<p>Lots of kids with HIGH sat's pick schools down the ladder of rankings...not to worry. My D is at Fordham. She was in the upper ranges of their avg. stats....and she has friends there who scored PERFECT 2400's and are on full rides. They are all challenged there and LOVING it. Its better to be happy and challenged....than to be frenetic and unhappy.</p>
<p>I'm applying to Sewanee this year, and I have the same concern as your son. I have a 2310 SAT, 35 ACT and all of my other schools are Ivy/top-20. Sewanee is also the only LAC I'm applying to. I definitely felt really awkward when they asked where else I was applying in my interview (Princeton, Duke, Yale, Brown....etC)</p>
<p>I'm Asian so I was invited to their Multicultural Experience Weekend in November. I felt completely in love with the campus. If your son is into nature/hiking, there are a lot of trails and some amazing sights (The Cross!) and they do a lot of outdoors clubs/retreats since the campus is 10,000 acres. I sat in on two classes, both which were introduction courses so that wasn't really helpful. One was an intro to anthropology class that I found fairly interesting, although I heard some students don't like the professor. The classrooms are small and she was using a chalkboard, which is weird to me as my high school is very tech-forward. The intro to econ professor knew her stuff pretty well and was very clear in her teaching style, as I knew the material from taking the AP Econs. And yes the professors do wear black robes when they teach, but the overall student dress isn't as traditional as their brochures make them out to be.</p>
<p>I'm sure you've heard how Sewanee has an amazing English department. What does your son want to study? I would have to say I was not impressed by the statistics they gave out for med school acceptances, as I am thinking about med school. I didn't visit any science classes though, so I can't comment on how well the labs are equipped, etc. The central campus is really small and each building contains several departments, so keep in mind Sewanee is a very small school. </p>
<p>Is your son a senior this year? If he is, definitely MAKE SURE he applies by December 9th with the Merit supplement! That's the Merit Scholarships deadline and with his stats Sewanee will probably invite him to Merit Weekend in February, all expenses paid for.
And definitely the overnight/weekend visit is really important. When I was there for MEW, there were people there for Fall Preview, and they were asking about the social scene, and a male econ professor had some major issues trying to describe it (compared Sewanee to an island and talked about how great it is to be on an island), while those of us who stayed overnight had seen how big the partying is there. </p>
<p>I did meet a girl there who had turned down Georgetown for Sewanee.</p>
<p>I am a big fan of Sewanee, and have visited a number of times. It has a huge alcohol scene- be aware of that. It is very isolated but beautiful.</p>
<p>Is there any room for international student with 1970 on SAT 1 at Sewanee.</p>
