Sewanee: The University Of The South VS NYUAD

Hi guys,
I was an exchange student in the US and currently, I am in a gap year. I need help deciding between Sewanee vs.NYU Abu Dhabi.

For Sewanee college If I receive the global scholarship, I would get 95 % of my expense taken care of. I just have to pay $5000 for my air travel, health care, and personal expenses.

But if I choose NYUAD, I don’t have to pay for anything. They would cover my flight ticket to all my health care. They even provide me with a stipend for personal expenses.

NYUAD would give me a global education and allow me to study abroad for free. Since I will be in Abu Dhabi I can study abroad in the US for free up to 2 semister. They would cover my living expense and flight tickets as well. An average NYUAD student would travel 9- 12 countries. And I would be able to do that for free since they meet full need. I can also participate in various research opportunities as well.

Sewanee has also a small class size as well as amazing research opportunities. Sewanee is located at a remote place in Tennessee. Sewanee also offers study abroad opportunities as well. The only difference is the international student body. Sewanee has only 4%, international students. And international students have experienced racism at the school.

But the career development at Sewanee is ranked 20. The students who graduate from Sewanee get into really grad schools or good job opportunities.

NYUAD also has an amazing career center but the job opportunities in the US are limited.

MY goal is to hopefully find a job in US but at the same time to get a great college education.

Any suggestions/ opinions will be appreciated

Do you want to live in Abu Dhabi or Tennessee? They are quite different.

There is your answer right there. If you are looking for a job in the USA, then Sewanee would be the better choice. Both provide great college educations.

Where are you from, if you don’t mind saying? That can determine whether Abu Dhabi itself would be a good place for you.

Do you have offers from both places, or is this hypothetical? The “If” makes me think that this is hypothetical. If so, come back when you have offers. I’m guessing you qualify for the Emirati Scholarship, but you still have to be admitted to NYU. There are only 10 of those Global Scholarships. Even exceptional students can’t take it for granted that they will get one.

you are unlikely to be successful, whether you choose Sewanee or NYUAD. Freshly minted college grads are not in short supply, and you would need an employer willing to spend the time and money to make the case that you are the only person qualified to do the job.
