Hi,
I’ll be submitting my CSU apps tomorrow, and have heard that applying for housing at SF state is different than applying at the other state schools because you have to apply for housing right away?? Can anyone tell me if this is true and if I should be ready to apply for housing soon?
Housing in the SF Bay Area generally is very competitive and prices are high. I would assume the same if you are not in the college dorm/housing. It would not hurt to apply as soon as you are admitted to the school. I would not think that housing application is available to you if you have not been admitted to the school.
If admitted, then definitely submit your housing application since it is on a first come basis. Check the deposit information in case you change your mind and want to withdraw. Most schools will refund the deposit before May 1.
Okay, thank you both! I had a post here in which someone commented that the application is available before acceptances even come out, and that I should apply for housing regardless if I have gotten an acceptance yet. They said it was different than the other CSU schools but I can’t find any other info on it. Guess I’ll just make a quick call to the school to be sure.
yes, this is true housing for spring 2018 started September 6th you were supposed to apply even if you weren’t accepted which is weird but its so competitive that they make you apply before being accepted and the deposit you make will be given back to you if you didn’t get a spot. Supposedly if you applied you would know by November 21st but I haven’t yet so I don’t know it’s confusing.
I applied for Fall 2018, so I’m assuming those application dates are coming up for me soon. Thanks!
these are currently the dates sfsu housing has posted regarding spring 2018 housing. it looks like they have changed the initial date from November 21 to December 4 as of recently.

@socal2norcal I was actually wondering about Fall 2018 housing. Thank you for the help though!
Just be aware that SF State housing for first-year students is different from a lot of other universities. Apply as soon as the application becomes available even if you have not been accepted to the university. Complete whatever agreements and deposits they request. If you decide not to attend SFSU, they will refund deposits (except for the $40 initial fee). If you apply early, they might tell you what type of room you have before the deadline to accept admissions (i.e. before May 1).
