The incomplete A-G course list is almost certainly why SF State rejected your son. There’s no harm in contacting admissions and appealing but, in my experience CSUs are very rigid on this requirement. Covid, might allow them some flexibility right now, I’d reach out and see what your son can do to meet the requirement.
UNR has a solid CS program and is accepting applications. They are much more flexible on REQUIRED courses so, it might be worth submitting an ap while SF considers your appeal.

Yes, thank you. We toured UNR with my other son and really liked it. And my son has a cousin that lives there. We were not looking at CS when we were there, though.
The CSUs may be rigid on A-G’s for regular students, but the rule is that they can’t hold a student to that requirement if their school doesn’t offer approved A-G courses, and our school does not. So, I think we could successfully appeal, and we have the deadline on the calendar. We will see what all admissions he gets that he’s happy with, and appeal if he needs to pursue SFSU further.
