SFS and course difficulty

Hey guys. All I see from competitive schools like Georgetown is that they want you to take the most difficult courses available to you. Does this mean that you'll be heavily penelized for literally not taking all the honors/AP courses available to you even since your freshman year? I've studied Latin for 2 years and German for 4 years and I want to apply to SFS (only a junior right now). By the time I graduate I'll have taken 6 AP's. Is Georgetown looking for more than this kind of stuff on your transcript? (in terms of courses taken) Thanks a lot.

i got in EA to the SFS and I'm just like you, by the time I graudate I'll only have taken 6 APs. Now that's a lot for my school considering we dont offer very many and since its so small its pretty much impossible to take EVERY Honors/AP available cuz often they are only offered one period per semester, but Gtown didn't know that and I managed to get in. Plus, my frosh and soph year I only took 3 of the 5 available Honors classes and this year I didn't even have a science class (because of scheduling conflicts I was forced to start a frosh non-honors course in a new language, instead of taking AP Bio). I think it's more about taking honors/AP in language and gov if ur interested in SFS Intl Politics and demonstrating that you challenged urself and did well in classes that relate to your passion. IMO, if ur overall GPA and rank are still good, believe me 6 APs is plenty and it won't hold you back.

If you ARE super worried about it, for my UC app I decided to use the "any additional info" essay to talk about my small school and why i couldn't really take a science or any more APs this year b/c of scheduling conflicts, so I'm sure you could attach something small from your counselor if ur worried. But other than that, I wouldn't worry about it. Just try your best to showcase ur talents and passions in ur essays and ull be fine!

I got in EA and while have completed 11 AP classes and taken 13 AP tests. (Which is about 50% of what my school offers).

I don't think they want outrageous amounts. Don't lose sleep over it if you can't get a solid AP schedule.

I have also noticed a few of us who got in took classes at the local community college to expand our horizons, if you will. Perhaps if your schedule at school is not completely unmanageable you can seek challenges outside of your school.

I got in EA, and I haven't taken any honors or AP classes until this year. I think that a lot of other factors weigh more heavily than this, or other factors are able to compensate for the lack of APs or honors or whatever.

I got in EA and will have taken 9 AP courses and 11 tests (if I take Spanish) by the time I graduate. However, I have never taken any accelerated (i.e. honors) or AP sciences. I guess that's my weakness, but apparently SFS doesn't care. You should be perfectly fine with 6 APS - just make sure you do well in them. I was told by a GU rep that they count your transcript and SATs more than everything else combined.
