SFS Chances

I'm really worried--SFS at GU is pretty much my dream but I'm worried I don't have the credentials--please tell me what you think

I'm a white female in Georgia

Several people from my school are also applying

Tell me what you think, it's much appreciated!

why are you really worried?

i mean, i'm not saying you're in for sure, but there's nothing glaringly wrong with your stats that should make you worry.

is there anything specific you're worried about? it looks pretty good to me.

then again, i'm not an admissions officer...

I'm just worried because so many people I know are applying, and I'm only 17th, and I don't have any leadership positions except for tennis and secretary of FHS...There is nothing that stands out on my application!

How many people from your school are applying to SFS? How many are applying to the rest of the schools at Gtown?

2 people in the IB program are applying to other schools, 4 other people in IB are applying to sfs.
and i just realized i forgot to put captain down for my high school tennis team

Damn 4 other people for your IB are applying to SFS. How many have better stats than you? How are you ranked comparatively?

Your Math score is a bit low for Georgetown, however, what's really most important for the SFS is having a compelling reason why you specifically have a passion for the general study of international affairs. GPA, SAT and the like are just a pre-requisite to get through the first gate. For SFS admissions, they are dealing with a class of 330, so it really all boils down to personal characteristics, qualities, and having a compelling reason for why you would be an asset to the SFS. I'm not sure if that helps at all, but again stats are really just step one for the SFS particularly.

i think i have better creds than the other applicants to sfs, but there is one girl that has better creds, but she is applying to a diff program
and thanks, copley, it does help, and i hope the interview is important, because GU is really really my dream school and I'm pretty passionate about it!!

How would anyone rate my chances to SFS...

Voguepanda- dangit you're from Georgia AND applying to SFS AND have better stats...haha jk...even though I am kinda being serious.

Jake, make your thread, but don't hijack other peoples. We see your chances one, you don't have to put it in everyone elses. Your new, so its ok, but just don't do it anymore.

AudraLaudarque...hey, I was worrying about you! You definately got the stats over me! Man, why do smart people have to live in Georgia of all places?
Good luck!

haha thanks and you too!

Are you kidding? Savannah IS rural. I am from Los Angeles, population 10,000,000. Savannah has 120,000. It's rural. Thanks for the complement, but your GPA is WAY higher. And so are your SAT IIs. Seriously. And you are in the top 4%. And you go to an IB school, in "one of the top high schools in the nation". Which school, btw? We row against a lot of Atl schools, so I have heard of many of the more prestigious ones.

lol, I go to Campbell HS, but we don't have a rowing team--except for the IB Program, we are DIRT poor. I've never been to Savannah before, but in case you loved it and thought it was big, I didn't want to offend--big jump from LA!
(I've heard that it's a gorgeous city tho...)
I still think you have better chances, but I just really really REALLY hope we both make it!
20 days and I really don't want that deferral letter!

neither do I- but what's making me nervous is that it could come up to five days before December 15, during exam time- and that would be killer. Otherwise, it could come while I am on vacation (I leave on the fifteenth!), and if that happens, I am going to have a friend come over everyday and check to see if the letter (hopefully an acceptance!) has arrived. I hope we both make it, too!

I have got to get off this board. It will seriously be the death of me. It stresses me out WAY too much.

Seriously, I know how you feel! I check this site WAYYYY too often, and it's crazy depressing seeing everyone's stats be higher than mine!
Not to mention I get my SAT scores in 2 days
Dec. 15th is a week before finals for me, but I have all my stupid IB internal assessments due around then...UGH, I can't wait for winter break (and an letter with good news in it).
My school counselor pretty much told me that I would be deferred though, so my hopes aren't up.

ugh yeah my counselor basically said that it was a reach for me...but the good news is that my second choice is a "relative safety" (her words, not mine) and I absolutely LOVE that school, too, although I still love Gtown more. How about we say that the pros and cons cancel out and that we are equal candidates and that Gtown would be lucky to have either one of us?
