SFS Essay Topic Ideas???

I have a few general topic ideas, but I worry they aren’t global enough. A few of them only implicate one or two countries, so I’m not sure if that’s what SFS is looking for. What topics are you all writing your essays on/what topic did you use if you’ve already applied/are a current student? Thanks!

Hi! I’m a current SFS student, and I wrote about the Israel-Palestine conflict through the lens of my being Jewish and having most of my family in Israel, and how it’s important to differentiate between Israel as a principle and cultural center in a sense and its politics, which I openly criticized despite being pro-Israel as a country. I don’t think the SFS looks for how many countries you can talk about at once, but more about how you analyze the situation and your thought process and perspectives about conflicts and resolutions. I think as long as what you’re writing about is global, in any sense, you’re fine. It’s about how you write I think more so than what exactly you’re writing about. At least from my own personal experience. Good luck!

Thank you! That’s good to hear. Do you think having a personal tie to the topic is important? I don’t have a tie to mine, but am still very passionate and informed about the matter, so I want to write about it. Would it be better if I wrote about something more closely related to my experiences?
