So I plan on being either a government major in the college or a science, technology, and international affairs major in SFS. There are a couple factors I'm hung up on in my decision, however. The first is that I literally took Spanish through Spanish III, and quit in favor of doubling up in science. So I feel like that does not look good at all for SFS, considering you have to be proficient in a foreign language upon graduating. However, the science does make sense in the aspect of my major within SFS, so I'm kind of torn. I would rather be in SFS than the college, but rather the college than a different university, if that makes sense. I only recently realized this could be a somewhat big factor, does anyone have any opinions? Do they look for extensive foreign language experience/dedication? And if so, would I be better off applying to the college? There's also the aspect that SFS is considered to be more selective, but I don't guess anyone could offer an opinion on that without seeing all of my stats.

SFS isn’t more selective. As a matter of fact, people ALWAYS say that the college is the largest school in Georgetown and is “harder to get into”. But if you look at the stats for the college, sfs, msb, and nhs, they are all fairly similar. (In terms of SAT scores and acceptance rate and yadda yadda) MY (emphasis on “my”) logic is that if you can get into one, there’s a good chance you could have gotten into another.

Don’t worry about having a strong language background. I only have 2 years of spanish that I took in my senior year, and I got accepted into SFS. I think what SFS looks for are students with a global perspective. You should highlight that in your essay.

“I would rather be in SFS than the college, but rather the college than a different university, if that makes sense.” I don’t get what you mean by that at all. And I honestly don’t know which school in Georgetown would be better for you. But I do want to tell you that ruling out SFS because you think you won’t get in is wrong, as previously explained.

Good luck!

yeah SFS definitely focuses on the global experience in general. If you aren’t completely set on the SFS I would recommend against it just in case you do realize that it isn’t for you. One of my friends took russian in high school and started taking it here as well and was overwhelmed and ended up transferring to the college as a result. With that said its important to realize that russian is only offered as an intensive language and is generally regarded as one of the hardest languages to learn.

if you’re interested in stia there’s also a major called biology of global health in the college that is somewhat similar. I’m personally a stia major myself, and I much prefer it, but the bogh major is good too.

if you have any more questions feel free to pm me, and good luck!
