SFSU or Sac State for engineering?

Hello everyone,

The title said it all, I’m a transfer student from a CC and I have been admitted to SFSU and Sac State for engineering. I have done my research both schools and asked around, there are mixed opinions about which one is better for engineering. I still waiting to hear back from other CSU, but most likely I will attend either SFSU or Sac. The thing is I can’t made up my mind about which school should I choose; which one do you think is a academically better school for engineering (put aside finances, weather, culture or environment factors…)

I’m planning to take 15 credits/ semester to be able to graduate in 2 years. I also hope that I will be able to get some internships throughout the next 2 years. ( I saw the college rankings in usnews website saying that SFSU ranked 69 for undergrad engineering program and Sac State is 55, but I’m not sure if these ranking would make that much of a difference)

I have from now to May 1st to come up with a decision; however, the recommended classes for each schools is a bit different and I am trying to get the most out of my last semester at my CC so I am hope I will able to make up my mind soon, to register for the classes that I need. Any input would be greatly appreciated and thank you for taking your time replying to this thread.

you ever think about UCD? they have great engineering programs - 20 mins from Sac State, most our professors (Sac area) are from UCD.
Don’t over load yourself- better to do well and take your time, trust me 15 units is a lot. If you can handle it more power to you. Careful for busy work assigners.

so why not UC? UC will give you more options - you can do IGETC for both and apply for both

I did not apply to UC due to the cost I can’t afford. Since I only applied to CSU and wanted to get “Bay Area experience” which one out of these two would be a better fit in terms of academically?

If the two schools are similarly ranked and you are not picky about climate and culture (SF and Sac are HUGELY different in both), then you should see which school you can get out of in two years. All schools have issues with graduation rates. I don’t know anything about SFSU, but I live near Sac State and know that there has been a serious effort lately to decrease the amount of time students spend in school. Sac State had a pretty poor six-year graduation rate, so improvements were needed.
