Im currently suck between San Francisco State and San Jose State. I want to major in computer science. At SFSU I got accepted as a computer science major but at SJSU I got accepted as an undeclared. I also live in San Francisco. If I go to SJSU I cannot afford to live there and would have to commute. I heard that SJSU is a better school for computer science. Should I go there or should save money on the commute and go to SFSU? Or should I just go to community college and transfer to a UC? Please help! Thank you!
If you go to SJSU, there is no guarantee you can switch into CS. If you go the CC route, you can TAG to 5 UC’s for CS and get a guaranteed admission if you complete the TAG requirements.
Since you got into SFSU as a CS major and it is affordable, then I would attend. Doing well at SFSU will still give you good job opportunities.

it doesn’t look like CS is impacted at SF so, a major change once you get there is probably a pretty simple process. I’d suggest you call the department directly to be sure.
SJ’s program is very good and I suppose you could use CalTrain to commute but, your days will be pretty long as a CS major so, adding an hour on both ends will really beat you up. Rent in both places is similarly absurd but, i presume you’ve got a family home in SF you can live in … tipping the scales pretty heavily to SF State. Their program is very good and - like SJ, is surrounded by tech companies so, internships and post grad jobs are plentiful. As for CC - you have the risk that you won’t qualify to transfer, or your transfer getting delayed. i don’t think you’ll gain much with a UC (vs CSU) degree in CS…
Isn’t CS one of the most competitive majors to get into in SJSU? It just seems like quite a risk.
Go for the direct admit at SFSU.
The program is sound and most graduates get job offers prior to graduation.
