Hey Prepchick, I would just like to say again that you made the right choice and I know you'll really enjoy your time at SG. A big congratulations and good luck!

Loophole -- I usually enjoy reading D'yer's posts. There isn't much information out there for boarding applicants and their parents who do not come from families with a boarding tradition or go to a school that prepares students for boarding. I think it's helpful to share information and opinions.

thanks ops! im really excited for next year

prepchick91, correct me if I'm wrong, isn't this your second go with SGS? In either event, congrats! and if it is you who re-applied I admire your focus.

Wow...a lot of activity here...and I hadn't meant to cause a stir or -- most importantly -- rain on anyone's parade. My S applied to SGS because I regard it and he regards it to be an excellent school. I know several people who have gone to SGS and they, too, regard it as an excellent school. I just had a weird conversation -- with an admissions counselor -- that I think is worth sharing.

The truth is I think the important thing to take away from my post is not some greater truth that SGS is "good" or "bad" -- as that's sort of useless. I mostly want to send out a warning signal to parents and students to take time to match up the schools with the students. I don't think SGS would have been such a great fit...and I thank the admission office for seeing that much before I did. This applies to all schools. They are not all alike except for the statistical information you glean from BSR or Peterson's. There are definite "cultures" (though probably not just one culture per school) and that's hard to figure out from the database web sites or even a 2 hour visit.

Finally, I'll extend this into a 3rd paragraph just so Loophole won't have to read this. ;) And, in doing so, save the best for last in congratulating prepchick91 and others who will be going to SGS. I hope you continue to post because SGS and other ISL schools don't have enough of a voice here on CC and your continued involvement will help others make wise choices.

SGS was actually made it to my "top 10 schools to apply to" list that i had to narrow down to 6....i didnt end up applying here...but i really wanted to..

I'm going to call this school next week along with some other schools im was considering if they have any spots at all, ask them if they have room on the waitlist, etc.

St. Georges sailing...my god....i only dream of the views and the RI waves and breezes..
