if you're on the shy side, i think a letter is the way to do it.

norcalguy, i went to some insurance website (i forget which one), entered my zip code, and it gave me all the doctors in the area along with their education history, specialty, address, and phone number. i didn't know any of them. i just chose the ones that were somewhat close to where i live and specialized in the fields in which i was interested.

i actually spoke to a doctor, she would have loved to do it. But apparently alot of docs mal practice insurance doesnt cover this sort of thing.

Are doctors generally receptive to high school students asking to shadow them? Also, since I'll probably use e-mail, would it be best to e-mail the doctors one at a time (as in e-mailing one, waiting for the response, then e-mail another if the first doctor said no)? Are there any specialties that absolutely do not take high school students as shadows?
Sorry for asking so many questions.

i wouldnt e-mail all the docs at once. Because if more then 1 say yes, i would think it would be insulting to turn one down. Afterall, you asked him.

And idk i think doctors are flattered, the one I asked was at least.

Yes, that's what I was thinking (turning down a doctor that has taken the time to respond to you/offer you a job shadow).

One more thing, when you asked the doctor, did you basically introduce yourself as a student interested in X specialty, and that you were wondering if you could job shadow them?

yea basically...i knew my doctor, but thats wut i did with the plastic surgeon, i also initiated an interview with him...like a casual meeting to get to know him

ya, like im working in a physicians office and i get to see a few cases with the doctors, but i dunno, the office manager told me that she would let me shadow a little later, but its been a month since she told me that.. should i ask again?

And i called a few pediatricians offices, but none of them replied back. I'm not sure if its the way im introducing myself or what... What do you guys think? and should i call back because a lot of them told me that they would ask the doctors and get back wtih me, and its been two days, so would it be rude if i called back on say monday?

hi…i am currently an upper junior and i am really interested in shadowing a Pediatrician. i read from your post that you have shadowed them, can you please let me know where you shadowed? because i really need shadowing experience.
