Is shadowing necessary for BSMD programs? Research is my no. 1 passion relating to medicine and with all this corona, I’m not really gonna get a chance to shadow someone.
How bad will this hurt me?
Shadowing and clinical volunteering are both critical for anyone who hopes to become a physician. Medicine is all about hands-on patient treatment, not research.
If your passion is research, then a MD is probably the wrong career track for you. You’d be much better suited to a PhD or perhaps a MD/PhD.
Will the lack of shadowing hurt you with BA/MD admissions? Yes, but with Covid-19, programs have lowered their expectations for these activities for applicants.
Do you have any other activities that might be a proxy for your willingness to serve others? Any community service with the disadvantaged? Any community service in general?
