shadowing

i was looking into shadowing a doctor over the summer, but i really dont know what type of doctor i should shadow.
so just wondering what types of doctors are best to shadow???
cardiologist, pediatrician, neurologist, etc.

which type of doctors are you interested in? are you interested in feet or eyes or the heart? or wutever categories doctors come in...

whichever you are truly curious about you should shadow

I'm shadowing doctor's practices that i'm interested in..
-Orthopedic surgery
-interventional radiology

Decide who to shadow based on how your other interests tie into medicine and which interests you the most.

Contact your local hospital first and ask them for whom they do job shadows, because a lot of hospitals won't let you shadow certain kinds of doctors.
try a diagnostician or doctor of internal medicine first...I think...keep it general, maybe?

Good luck finding a diagnostician. It's a fictional specialty.

^Haha

I would call around to various hospitals and if that doesn't work out look for smaller offshoots like surgery centers.

usually they dont allow you to shadow doctors, especially if you are a high school student (liability, etc.) do you know anyone personally? does your scool have any special programs? my school had a program where i had to compete through an essay writing contest in order to shadow a transplant surgeon, but the program was only for one day and we didnt even get to see transplants :( if you can, shadow a surgeon around, not only is it SUPER AMAZING, but it looks wonderful on college apps :D

coffeeicecream: lol...you should have asked the transplant surgeon that you shawdowed if you could continue doing it...
