Shall we start preparing for rejection?

In the midst of my mad mood swings, I'm starting to get back in touch with the biatch called reality..

Let's face it - Columbia is an "ivy league" uni.. Which means it is "highly selective".. and it's one of the hardest schools to get into~
I roughly calculated (with the admission stats on Columbia's website) and it seems like 1 in 4 people get in.
This may seem quite good to begin with.. but that means.. If there are 20 of us on here... only 5 of us will get in.... :(

So what are the odds?

I think I'm going to prepare myself for a rejection.... As much as it's going to be hard to let go of my obssession, I really don't want to have to go to therapy after a big R.

No school will ever be as good as my beloved Columbia.. but I guess we have to settle right?

A month to go......

I'm afraid that if I get deferred or rejected I won't be able to do anymore apps..

So here's to all the successful RD apps guys !~~ cheers!

BTW, if you get deferred are you going to camp outside 212 Hamilton Hall and protest and do whatever it takes? I heard some girl did that in Princeton and she got in later...

I'm thinking of writing a best-seller of WHY I am the ultimate Columbia student and my obssession of yearning to go there.. Hope it gets published fast enough :)

OMG hahahahahaa check this out: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=74894&posted=1#post74894

displacednewyorker wrote:

In philosophy class over the summer, we read a letter that a girl who was denied admission to Columbia wrote. It went something to the tune of:

Dear Admissions of Columbia University,

I regret to inform you that I am rejecting your rejection of me. I have invested a lot of time and thought into my decision to attend Columbia, and I intend to matriculate at your campus. I am sorry if this will cause any complications, but I look forward to starting with you in New York in the fall!

I thought that was funny.

i love it! haha i reject ur rejection.... thats brill!

wow silver_wavez, you really are obsessed =P

heh no offense, but I think you've made about 5000 posts on the columbia board about this

I'm just as guilty, actually ;p

i know.. im just actually on msn to my friends now.. and im making them read this..

how sad am i.. in this thread im talking to myself..
im actually everywhere.. i even took over the yale thread obssessing over columbia :(

i feel like im becoming a psycho woman...

omg chris calm down! people must think ur crazy talkin to urself... but hehe don worry i guess a lotta people are columbia obsessed!

Yeah, Columbia was quite a reach for me so I'm ready to accept rejection.

However, keep in mind that the kids on collegeconfidential generally tend to be more qualified than the overall applicant pool so the "acceptance rate" here is probably higher than whatever it is for everyone.

why are the kids here more qualified? i'm not trying to sound cynical...i just would like to know why more qualified kids would come here to post?

if you're obsessed with college then you've most probably spent your past four years detailing your life to fit your favorite ivy league, and if you've done that then you're obviously pretty qualified, and back to the point about being obsessed - obsessed people search for sites like this to check out their competition which ends up in a forum filled with obsessed and qualified people.

"...which ends up in a forum filled with obsessed and qualified people."

LOL...how true.

"...if you're obsessed with college then you've most probably spent your past four years detailing your life to fit your favorite ivy league..."

i certainly hope not- that's a terrible way to live. i think most ppl start obsessing when it really becomes an issue, like the end of junior year (at least thats what i did)

haha i think its true

Yeah, middle of junior year for me.

probably beginning of jr. year for me, but believe me, college confidential people start wayyy early. Have you seen some of the sophomores or freshmen post on this site asking if they're going in the "right direction" for princeton? it's whack, whack i tell you.

silver wavez you should start planning a hunger strike in front of columbia starting dec 15th ;-)

I started getting worried about college at the end of Sophmore year when i got a 630 on my Bio SAT 2!

I agree with Franklin. And it's not so much "obsessing," but being very interested in a particular college. I'm in my Junior year right now, and I've wanted to attend Columbia since 8th or 9th grade. I work hard in school with college and my future in mind, but I don't completely shape my life around getting into Columbia, as I'm sure is the case for the rest of you. We know just about everyone on these forums is well qualified, and that almost is a bad thing for those who apply (and post here), because it makes it seem like the entire applicant pool is that way.

This board alone makes it seem as if the average applicant's GPA is 4.0+ and the average SAT is 1500+. According to The Princeton Review, the average GPA is 3.79 (still high, of course, but not above 4.0) and the average SAT 1407 -- even though you probably all know this already.

The point is, you guys are, more or less, above average and I definitely see more than just 25% of ED applicants on this board getting in.

good luck to everyone in the ED round :)

Even though I'm not applying to Columbia, I'm amazed at how the history of the city of New York is a history of Columbia. The converse is true. I'd love to take Professor Jackson's Course on the History of NYC. I loved Columbia since 6th grade. :).

"why are the kids here more qualified? i'm not trying to sound cynical...i just would like to know why more qualified kids would come here to post?"

People who are mostly driven and eager to head to college care more about the process than the "average" student. So they spent their precious time and looking for sites like this instead of going outside...lol im just kidding. The truth is, we CCers are just better than everyone else. =)
