alright I hate to do this...but since we already know rochester offers great academic potential...does anyone know how the social life REALLY is? do these kids party? and also, how are the guys (god i hate that I'm doing this but i know other people wanna know)? and also, is there a generalization that can be used for rochester's student body (e.g. wesleyan is hippie, vanderbilt is preppy and conservative,etc.). if anyone knows, please share your knowledge. thank you!

hi...

i got in ED to Rochester, and when I was applying back in December I had these questions and doubts too. There definietly issss a social life. Rochester is a type of school, where if u wanna party there are definietly parties going on on campus at various fraternities etc, but if you wanna do other things for fun that option is there as well. I ve asked many freshman, sophmores etc at Rochester and all of them party and none of them are dissapointed in the social life aspect of Rochester. YOU JUST HAVE TO FIND THE PARTIESS lol. And you can of course go into Rochester and hit the clubs if u so please as well. And IMO, with my interaction with Rochester students i d say they are kinda preppy but still down to earth, and just nice people. I ve spoken to atleast 30 current students, and like i m talking about me just totally asking them random questions before even meeting them, and they were all soo nice about like making sure I knew everything about Rochester.

so ooook
...social life:
When there are no tests, people are very easy going, down to earth, relaxed, and they do party a resonable amount. When the midterms come, people are study machines and everyone all of a sudden becomes very academically oriented. I guess this is true for a number of schools, but Rochester is a little different. Here, people are focused academically but they are not your typical overachieving, cut-throat, study-all-the-time competitve nerds. I can say this as someone who has visited the campus like 5 times (i live in rochester) and stayed over for two nights for rems weekend. Anyways, you can easily talk to kids and they will definitely help you out w/ anything (studying, HW, etc) Like nj said, people are very down to earth here. Like the people on the floor i stayed on (in SueB) talked to me like i was one of the freshmen. I don't think there is a lack of social life here, unless of course you are completely socially inept. In terms of parties, the really good ones are in the frat houses. Besides that, there are decent parties all over campus.
...guys:
Ok, so this is weird talking bout guys since I am a guy....so...ye, I just won't. PS - I'll be there next year...if that interests anyone :)
...student body
Dresswise, I think people are more preppy. But honestly, you're going to college for yourself, so i don't make a big deal of what the majority of the people are like nor do i try to conform. I'd have to say the people here are more on the liberal side, although there is a decent number of conservatives here. There's actually Republican and a Democratic organizations at UR, so if that's for you, go for it.
Nwayz, i'm tired and i smell something good that my mom just made so im just ganna go ahead and stuff myself. Oh...amm, if anyone has questions, you can certainly im me (slavchik87)...i'd love to talk to some future classmates!

you're a cool kid

ure a cool gurl cutieeee

AHhaahah was that just an online flirt? Do you two even know how either of you look like? XD - hey im just not a big fan of online matches but hey in this day and age it happens alot (I myself got to know most ppl over AIM before asking them out in person lol) but nuff of that =P

Sounds to me like a great balance of social life and academic life if people can still help each other out during Midterms/Finals without being all cocky and cut-throat competitive - and I think the best evidence of great people at UR is rriiight here: the people talking to you now - candidates for enrollment @ UR for the Class of 2010. Everyone here seems nice and down to earth =)

Id love to talk to some future UR ppl too - my AIM sn is Seishinryoku06 (its bound to change soon tho I think, but ill still be on this one at the same time - gotta love Trillian). So yah...thats IF you manage to catch me at a time when Im not dyin from sleep deprivation w/ the work ive got this year lol.

Curious, does anyone here play handball ? ^^
