Shameless plug for a school rarely mentioned here: Sweet Briar College of Virginia

Sweet Briar, is of now, the only college we've gotten around to visiting and is one that my D is now definitely planning on using as a safe school (and one she wouldn't be too unhappy attending if it came down to that).

The campus is absolutely gorgeous and was one of the main things my d liked about it. The girls we meet were nice and spoke highly of the school. D's worried it might be clique-sh though. The dorms were fairly nice (given that there dorm rooms). Overall, our family was impressed with school.

They are well known for their Study Abroad program, especially in Spain and I believe it's France. Also for their equestrian which gets a lot of publicity at least around where we live in VA. We were not as impressed with the engineering department (which is just really getting up off the ground).

I'm not much familiar with the reputation of a "finishing school", it wasn't mentioned on the tour we took nor have I heard it in the time we've lived in VA... but given the nature of the time it was founded, I can't say it really surprises me. They seem to have overcome it pretty it well.

The colors are indeed still pink and green, unless they've changed it in the past few weeks.

and I wonder if they're still "tipping cows" for entertainment?

You know, I've heard about the legend of cow-tipping at SO many rural schools that it makes me wonder if it might not have actually been a fad for a period of time, like streaking in the 70s. I wonder when that period might have been, and when was the last time that someone actually pushed a poor, sleeping cow over. I doubt that the girls at SBC would have done it---do you think?

Driver,
I love post #17. (However, you forgot to mention the incesssant ranting about PhD production rates.) Somehow that also weaves its way in to many many threads!

A good friend of mine was Sweetbrier class of '80, and her stories of "tipping cows" were the first of that sort of thing that I'd ever heard of. I thought she was kidding when she first started to talk about it, but she swore that that's what they did there.
