So in non-encouraging news, DS has received the Share My App suggestion every Saturday morning as others get decisions. So, last week he followed through and applied to other universities in the system, and yet again, both universities have his twin sister’s material instead of his. The months are now ticking by, he worked so hard to get his stats, and not even safety schools can give him an acceptance. Sooooo frustrated.
It takes a while for the U to get back to students, they have a lot of applications to go through. Just be patient, many won’t hear back until May or early April.
They will hear back no later than March. Some of the waitlists might hear back later than that but that’s not likely to apply to @CAmom01’s DS. Sounds like what’s happening is the default is his sister’s information, not his. Not to sound alarmist but you kind of wonder if the default is not to go into the admissions committee because - hey, it’s already been there with an acceptance!
@CAmom01 a very similar situation also happened to some twins who were friends of one of my older kids. Three admit cycles ago. The U admitted the sister early on but the brother had to wait for the last round of acceptances in February (which was the old deadline), despite having the stats for his college. He got in but was worried and bewildered for several months, wondering what it was about his application that they just didn’t like. Not sure he ever got an intelligent answer to why it was so delayed. Given that it’s pretty clear their system is defaulting to your DD’s application, it probably makes sense that a parent insist on speaking to an admissions director to address these valid concerns and get a solution implemented quickly. They can override whatever the system is doing. The admissions counselor should be able to as well but might be allowing the status quo to continue since it doesn’t show “a problem” on their end (although there clearly is one). And the staff answering the phone have little authority for anything other than making notes and passing them on up the line.
@JBStillFlying Thank you for your words. Just situations that really aren’t fun to experience right now. Well, I know they have to get back to us by Jan 31 since he was an early application :). DS has had such great responses from the admissions counselor he is working with and they even added in his essay, and two additional letters of recommendation. He also sent in another ACT set (same composite, but demonstrated potential in different areas since he superscores so much higher. Yes, I know they don’t superscore, but at this point, anything would be a help. DS discovered one issue last night that affected the sharing of his app with other universities in the system. He used the ID that was given to him via email and it turns out that it was reassigned to his sister at a later date. I don’t know when the reassignment was, but clearly this is how the most recent hiccup happened. Once you get into the tracker, you are only paying attention to that login and never go back to that ID number. DS is going to wait to proceed until he hears a clear plan from UMTC. His admissions counselor has been working on the latest issue and has assured him everything is clearly marked for his application at UMTC. I wonder how often they go back and review those they passed on at first, because there is no way they haven’t gotten to his at least once since early September. DD will likely have to contact each other universities to cancel her applications as well. No need having her competing for his spot at smaller ones :). I will get involved with some phone calls after this week if needed, but so far, they have been great to get things fixed. Just the new hiccup from old data it appears that as of the moment, all numbers are different for their online accounts. Although, DD hasn’t been able to get intto her tracker for weeks and has to keep calling in. I will have to watch that one a little closer.

- Yes, that must be it! Probably unproductive to over-analyze but what might have happened is that they accidentally thought the same kid was submitting two applications (an applicant will occasionally do that, believe it or not) and they just used the later data (hers) and re-assigned the number. Ugh.

- She will receive any invite to honors and/or merit aid via regular mail so no worries there. You can call UMN tech help for her new ID #. They are open 24/7.
