my roommates and i are trying to figure out who should bring what and we're not sure if we should share one printer or each buy our own. pros cons? etc.

just share one printer and split the cost for ink/paper

save space that way

What about the 250 pages per semester we are allowed to print?

^ It's a great deal. I brought my printer with me when I first came to Cal but quickly found it to be more cost effective to pay for the 250 prints in the computer lab at my unit. I DO still keep a printer with me (because sometimes my printing needs don't always jive with the lab's schedule) but I rarely use it. (Toner gets expensive for my Epson). I think that it's only about $5 for another 250 prints (or was it $12?).

hmm i thought it was free, along with a few other things... i saw it on a slip of paper in the Calso packet

wait we get free prints??in our units??

Are they open during convenient hours for students (meaning the middle of the night)?

haha or early in the morning before classes?

^ yeah i'd like to know if anyone has that information too!

It depends on the Unit, Unit 1 has more hours than Unit 2 but both are open until about 1am and open in the morning around 7am until 10am i believe and then again in the afternoon. They haven't determined the hours yet because it's no longer online.

ah thanks. 7-10 is good, just wake up a little early to print stuff before class if you have a late night :)

get your own printer. Don't schedule your homework doing around the hours the ASC is open/closed

No!!!! My plan is to steal a printer from the rescomp and hide my dirty tracks.

just get a printer man they're cheap and then you have one when you move out of the dorms and into an apartment or co-op or frat-house or whatever.

then again, i almost never use mine. if you're an engineering or science major you don't need to print very much stuff. my roommate is a more liberal arts kinda guy though, and he goes through paper like crazy.

............very true.

You might also need to scan and copy, look for a cheap all in one laser printer to share with your room mates, I got one with a 1500 page starter toner. That will last 3 student atleast one year with HEAVY printing. The refills for these toners are like under $10. And you cant beat the speed.
