Hello everybody! This is my first post here. I am an international student from Romania currently in my junior year. As I would like to study CS in the US, hope you can help me to choose the right universities. Believe I did a lot of research on Univ websites, blogs, forums, statistics, etc but I want to hear another points of view. Look to some stats:
GPA:UW 9.8/10
White female
Rank:school does not rank but it’s approximately 1-2%(>200 students in my year)
SATs:didn’t take yet but I’m aiming for 1500+,800math2 and 700+biology(consider I took them and these are my scores)
EC:
-I play basketball for 7-8 years and I am the captain of the team at my school
-I organize lots of events in my community/school(charity and not only). I’m sure I can’t talk about this in my essay as I like teamwork, I like to interact with other and to help people in need
-I am the president of students’ council
-I’m doing volunteering at a foundation for kids, I was/will be volunteer to several important events in Romania as festivals
-I spent the most of my last summer in a project for personal development in other town interacting with completely new people and international trainers
- I am a google developer challenge scholar
-I participated to several math national Olympiad( I got bronze medal in 2015)
-3rd time semi finalist to flex program(waiting the result rn so there is a chance to graduate in us)
I have already thought about my essays and I think my ideas are pretty interesting and reveal my personality.
Hope my recs will be excellent as I will ask some teachers that love me(the counselor, cs teacher and I didn’t decide about a humanities one). Also I may send additional recs from my couch or coordinator/mentor in my extra activities.
Financial need: I need full ride as my income is <20k/year(4 ppl)
I’m looking for universities that are willing to offer financial aid to international students (need-based) or some academic/merit-based scholarships. Also, for me it is important to study to a university where is a good cs department. As many others, I would like to be an intern for summers(gain experience, earn money).
For any other details ask me. Please tell me your honest opinion about what I can improve on my stats, what are my chances and the most important some ideas of what universities would be good for me(at least, theoretically, cuz after you tell me I will do my own research about that university)
P.s. as I read, Georgia institute of technology does not offer full aid for international and I am so disappointed because I loved it especially for their research in cs combined with the studies in autism. Is it true right?
